Filmmaker Vikram Bhaatt’s biggest blockbuster Raaz turns 24 today, however, Bhatt isn’t there for celebration, he is currently behind the bars along with wife Shwetambari Bhatt in Rs 30-crore fraud case. The bail petition of Bhatt and his wife was rejected by Rajasthan High Court yesterday. Court ordered that the duo to stay in judicial custody till the investigations continue. After a detailed argument by both the parties, the court gave this verdict yesterday.

Why is Vikram Bhatt in jail?
Vikram Bhatt and his wife were arrested in December last year by Rajasthan police. The duo was arrested from Mumbai and brought to Udaipur for questioning. They were arrested after a complaint was lodged by entrepreneur Dr Ajay Murdia, a resident of Udaipur, in connection with financial irregularities. Alongside Bhatt and his wife, others arrested are close associates and some staff.
During the bail hearing yesterday, prosecution requested to not grant the bail as the investigation is on and if released, he might interfere in the probe and could also influence the witnesses. Looking after the gravity of the case and the huge amount being involved, the court denied the bail.
The complainant Murdia filed a case against Bhatt for fraud of Rs 30 crore, that Murdia gave to Bhatt for making a film that he never made. The prosecution argued that the money Murdia gave Bhatt was for multiple film productions, but a few projects got completed, and the maximum amount went unaccounted. Prosecution argued that the invested amount was sent via many transactions, which is under police scrutiny.
