No Shortage of LPG Cylinders, Supply Continuously Stable: All India LPG Distributors Federation

The CSR Journal Magazine

P.N. Seth, the Executive President of the All India LPG Distributors Federation, stated on Tuesday that there is no prevailing shortage of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders. He assured that both commercial and domestic cylinders are being supplied without any interruptions. In remarks made to media, Seth emphasized that the domestic sector is prioritized when it comes to distribution and supply logistics. He mentioned ongoing dialogues with distributors and stakeholders to ensure that operations remain smooth and any issues related to LPG distribution are swiftly addressed.

Focus on Domestic Sector Amid Commercial Supply Challenges

Chandra Prakash, President of the federation, echoed Seth’s assurances regarding the LPG supply chain. He confirmed that the government, oil companies, and distributors are primarily concentrated on ensuring an adequate supply of domestic cylinders. He indicated that after domestic requirements are met, essential commercial services, such as hospitals, will receive prioritized supply. However, he noted that deliveries to commercial establishments including restaurants have been temporarily suspended in light of current circumstances.

Karnataka Officials Express Concerns Over Commercial LPG Shortages

Karnataka’s Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao called upon the central government to implement proactive measures to clarify how supplies will be sustained amid a shortage of commercial LPG cylinders, which has been exacerbated by the ongoing crisis in West Asia. Minister Rao criticized the government’s position regarding the situation in Iran, suggesting that India has shown bias towards Israel and the United States. Earlier on the same day, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah reached out to Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, requesting urgent intervention in addressing the critical shortage of commercial LPG in Bengaluru.

Impact of Recent Events on LPG Supply Chains

Siddaramaiah highlighted that disruptions in supply are the result of a directive from the central government, affecting restaurants, hotels, and catering services significantly, leading many to the brink of temporary closure. He pointed out that a new directive from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, which prioritizes domestic LPG supplies, has inadvertently resulted in this crisis for commercial users. The atmosphere of uncertainty regarding energy supplies has intensified due to rising tensions in West Asia, especially following military strikes targeting Iranian leadership and military assets earlier this year.

Regional Tensions and Their Influence on Energy Supply

The escalation of hostilities in West Asia, which includes the death of senior Iranian military figures in US and Israeli strikes, has led to retaliatory actions by Iran, targeting military installations across various Arab nations. The conflict has reportedly widened, with ongoing strikes from Israel and the US, complicating the regional landscape and therefore impacting global energy supplies.
