Nitish Kumar Secures Fifth Term as JD(U) President

The CSR Journal Magazine

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has been re-elected as the national president of the Janata Dal (United) for an unprecedented fifth consecutive term. The election took place on March 24, 2026, coinciding with his recent appointment as a member of the Rajya Sabha. Kumar’s re-election came after he ran unopposed, as no other members expressed interest in contesting for the position or submitted nominations.

Nomination Withdrawal Deadline Passed

The Janata Dal (United) established a deadline of 2:30 PM for withdrawing nominations, but as the designated election officer Aneel Hegde did not receive any competing nominations, Kumar’s position as the next president became assured. The party confirmed this status through an official statement, indicating that Kumar’s nomination would remain with the returning officer until the deadline expired.

Key Party Leaders in Attendance

At the announcement ceremony for Kumar’s re-election, several prominent JD(U) leaders were expected to be present. Among them were Party Working President Sanjay Kumar Jha, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, also known as Lalan Singh, who serves as a Union Minister, and Bihar Minister Shrawan Kumara, alongside other senior party officials. This gathering underscored the party’s unity and support for Kumar’s leadership.
