The CSR Journal Magazine

John Ternus has officially assumed the role of CEO at Apple, succeeding Tim Cook as of September 1. On his inaugural day, Ternus addressed employees in Cupertino, expressing his excitement for the company’s future and recent achievements. He particularly emphasised the significance of the forthcoming Apple event scheduled for September 9, when the iPhone 18 Pro series is anticipated to be unveiled.

In a memo leaked to Bloomberg, Ternus articulated his gratitude for the opportunity to lead the organisation, stating, “I’m honoured to be stepping into this role at what is truly the greatest company in the world.” He made it clear that he believes the upcoming event will be extraordinary, saying, “We have a huge launch next week that’s going to be phenomenal.”

While detailed announcements regarding the event were not specified in the memo, reports suggest that attendees can expect the introduction of the iPhone 18 Pro series, alongside the debut of the iPhone Fold. The event will be significant, being the first under Ternus’ leadership.

Ternus Acknowledges Tim Cook’s Legacy

As Ternus transitions into his role, he has taken the opportunity to acknowledge and thank Tim Cook for his substantial contributions over the past 15 years as CEO. In his communication with staff, Ternus stated that he holds a “deep appreciation” for the guidance provided by Cook during this time of change, noting that Cook led with “values, decency, and humanity.” Cook will remain with Apple as the executive chairman.

Under Cook’s leadership, Apple flourished, expanding its global reach and enhancing product lines, including the iPhone and iPad. The company also grew its service offerings, notably Apple Music and Apple TV. In his farewell memo, Cook expressed confidence in Ternus, remarking that he found “enormous comfort” in passing the leadership reins to someone he described as “brilliant and wonderful.”

Ternus concluded his memo by conveying enthusiasm for Apple’s future projects, underscoring his eagerness to work collaboratively with the team. “I’m just as excited about what lies beyond that,” he noted, indicating optimism for the new products currently under development and beyond.

CEO Compensation and Background

John Ternus has joined Apple’s executive ranks as a long-standing member of the company, having been part of Apple since 2001. Prior to his elevation to CEO, he fulfilled the role of senior vice president of Hardware Engineering. As the new CEO, Ternus is set to receive a substantial compensation package amounting to approximately $58 million (around Rs 551 crore).

On his first day, Ternus also marked his presence on the social media platform X, sharing a simple greeting of “hello,” thereby joining the ranks of other prominent Apple executives, including Tim Cook and Greg Joswiak.

The upcoming iPhone launch event is generating significant anticipation, especially as it will be Ternus’ first major unveiling as CEO. The tagline for the September 9 event is “Surprise and Shine,” promising excitement among Apple devotees and industry analysts alike.
