NEET Topper Dies by Suicide Hours Before MBBS Admission; Had No Interest in Medicine

In a deeply tragic incident, a 19-year-old NEET UG 2025 qualifier from Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district died by suicide on Tuesday, just hours before he was set to begin his journey to Uttar Pradesh for his medical college admission. The deceased, Anurag Anil Borkar, had secured a stellar All India Rank of 1475 in the OBC category, achieving a 99.99 percentile in the exam.

NEET Topper Found Dead Hours Before Leaving for MBBS Admission

A resident of Nawargaon in Sindewahi taluka, Anurag was preparing to pursue an MBBS course in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. However, he was found hanging in his room by his family members on the morning of his scheduled departure.

Police officials recovered a suicide note from the location. Though the full contents have not been made public, sources within the department revealed that the note mentioned Anurag “did not want to become a doctor.” In some versions of the note, it’s reported that he expressed a desire to enter business instead of following a career in medicine.

“A 19-year-old youth who had cleared the NEET allegedly ended his life in the district on Tuesday with his suicide note stating that he did not want to study medicine,” a senior police officer stated. The incident has been registered and is currently being investigated by the Navargaon Police.

The news of Anurag’s death has sparked conversations around parental expectations, student pressure, and career choice autonomy. Friends and locals have expressed shock, stating that he showed no outward signs of distress.

Another Student Suicide Reported, This Time in Tamil Nadu

Meanwhile, in a separate case from Tamil Nadu, five people have been arrested following the suicide of an Anna University student in Tiruchirappalli’s Pudukottai district. The student, originally from Virudhunagar district, died after jumping in front of a moving train on the night of September 20.

A suicide note found in his hostel room alleged that he had been a victim of sexual assault, blackmail, and extortion by the five accused. Based on this evidence, the police acted promptly, arresting the suspects and registering a formal case.
