The CSR Journal Magazine

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are scheduled to visit the state later this month, highlighting the Centre’s continued focus on infrastructure development and administrative strengthening in Assam.

The Chief Minister shared the details during a Facebook Live interaction from Davos, outlining the key programmes planned during the high-profile visits.

Modi’s February 14 visit to focus on infrastructure and development

According to Sarma, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Assam on February 14, during which he is slated to inaugurate a bridge over the Brahmaputra connecting two parts of Guwahati, along with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) campus in the city. The Prime Minister is also likely to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for several development projects during the visit.

Sarma noted that this will be Modi’s third visit to Assam in the past three months, underscoring sustained attention from the Centre towards the state. He added that the Prime Minister is expected to lay the foundation stone of a railway coach manufacturing factory at Kokrajhar as part of efforts to boost industrial development and employment.

Shah to lay foundation stone for new Assembly complex in Dibrugarh

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Dibrugarh on January 30, where he will lay the foundation stone for Assam’s second legislative assembly complex and address a public rally, Sarma said. The Chief Minister stated that the visit reflects the Centre’s emphasis on strengthening administrative infrastructure, particularly in Upper Assam.

Sarma also highlighted ongoing connectivity projects in the region, noting that a Peace Area and an Advanced Landing Facility are being developed at Moran in Dibrugarh district. These facilities are expected to significantly reduce travel time between Dibrugarh and Itanagar by enabling direct flights, complemented by improved highway connectivity.

The Chief Minister said the upcoming visits and development initiatives demonstrate the Centre’s commitment to accelerating infrastructure growth and improving strategic connectivity in Assam.
