PM Modi Launches Meerut Metro and Namo Bharat Train, Engages with Students

The CSR Journal Magazine

On February 22, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Meerut Metro and the Namo Bharat Train at Shatabdi Nagar Namo Bharat Station. Following the launch, he took a ride on the metro to Meerut South Station, where he interacted with students. The event saw the presence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, UP BJP President and Union Minister Pankaj Chaudhary, along with other officials.

Development Projects Unveiled

During the event, the Prime Minister dedicated a series of development projects in Meerut, with a total worth of approximately Rs 12,930 crore. He announced the completion of the entire 82 km Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor, which features the first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) in India. The newly inaugurated sections include a 5 km stretch between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi, and a 21 km segment from Meerut South to Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh.

Connecting Urban Centres

The Namo Bharat corridor, designed for a maximum speed of 180 km per hour, aims to enhance connectivity between major urban centres, including Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar, and Meerut, with Delhi. The Sarai Kale Khan station, which serves as the corridor’s starting point, will function as a significant multi-modal hub, connecting with Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, the Delhi Metro’s Pink Line, Veer Haqeeqat Rai ISBT, and Ring Road. The inauguration also includes three additional Namo Bharat stations in Meerut: Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul, and Modipuram.

Meerut Metro Services Initiated

Additionally, PM Modi launched the Meerut Metro services, which will operate on the same infrastructure as the Namo Bharat Train. This initiative marks a first in the country. The Meerut Metro is set to be the fastest metro system in India, with an operational speed of about 120 km per hour. The metro system will connect the entire route in 30 minutes while adhering to all scheduled stops.

Benefits of Integrated Transport System

The integration of Namo Bharat and Meerut Metro systems is expected to facilitate rapid intercity travel and efficient intra-city movement. This development aims to alleviate road congestion and contribute to a notable decrease in vehicular carbon emissions. These projects align with the Prime Minister’s vision for transforming urban mobility in India, focusing on creating seamless, efficient, and sustainable public transport systems that enhance the living standards of citizens.
