Major Gulf Airlines Resume Limited Flights Amid Regional Airspace Curbs

The CSR Journal Magazine

Key Gulf airlines, including Emirates and Etihad, have resumed limited flight services as of Saturday, responding to recent regional airspace closures. The airlines are gradually reinstating operations, focusing on specific “relief corridors” to assist stranded passengers. Emirates Airlines announced that it has restarted its services and encouraged passengers with confirmed bookings for afternoon flights to head to the airport. This notice also applies to travelers transiting through Dubai, contingent upon the operation of their connecting flights. Passengers are advised to check the updated flight schedules and book seats through the airline’s website.

Qatar Airways’ Temporary Flight Operations

Qatar Airways has announced that it will conduct limited flights to Doha. However, the airline has temporarily suspended its scheduled operations due to ongoing airspace restrictions in Qatar. Qatar Airways will resume flights only after the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority officially declares the complete and safe reopening of the airspace. The airline plans to issue further updates on March 8, at 09:00 Doha time. Following temporary authorization from the relevant authorities, Qatar Airways aims to operate several flights on March 8 from major cities such as London, Paris, and Frankfurt to Hamad International Airport. These flights are designated for passengers whose final destination is Doha and do not imply the restoration of normal commercial services. Travelers are advised not to arrive at the airport without a valid and confirmed ticket.

Oman Air Cancels Flights Due to Airspace Closures

Oman Air has informed passengers that due to the continuing restrictions in regional airspace, all flights to and from several destinations, including Amman, Dubai, and Doha, are canceled from March 9 through March 11. To accommodate affected travelers, the airline has added additional flights and encourages passengers to regularly check for the latest schedule updates on its website. Emirates has resumed a reduced number of flights to approximately 82-83 destinations, with plans to reach full capacity shortly. Similarly, Etihad Airways has restarted limited services from Abu Dhabi to various destinations across Asia, Europe, and North America.

Continued Disruptions in Regional Aviation

Qatar Airways has initiated limited relief flights from Muscat and Riyadh to European destinations, while Saudia has extended its flight cancellations affecting eight cities, including Dubai and Doha. Other airlines, such as flydubai and Air Arabia, have also resumed restricted operations. Airspace restrictions persist not only in Qatar but also in Bahrain, Iran, and Iraq, making Muscat a crucial transit hub for rerouted services. These disruptions in flight operations are ongoing and are connected to the broader crisis in West Asia, which has led to significant impacts on aviation across the region.
