“Main Teri Behen ko Maar Raha hu”: Man Kills Pregnant SWAT Commando Wife With Dumbbell in Delhi

The CSR Journal Magazine

A disturbing phone call made minutes before her fatal assault has emerged as a crucial detail in the murder case of 27-year-old Delhi Police SWAT commando Kajal Chaudhary. Kajal, who was four months pregnant, was allegedly beaten to death by her husband, Ankur, following prolonged dowry-related harassment. The incident took place on the night of January 22 at their rented residence in West Delhi’s Mohan Garden.

Kajal’s brother, Nikhil, a constable posted at Parliament Street Police Station, said he received a call from Ankur shortly before the attack. According to him, Ankur chillingly warned that he was about to kill Kajal and asked Nikhil to record the call, claiming it would serve as police evidence.

Screams Heard, Then Silence

Minutes later, Nikhil received another call during which he could hear Kajal screaming in the background. Shortly after the call disconnected, Ankur allegedly rang again and informed him that Kajal was “dead” and asked the family to come to the hospital.

When the family and police reached the house, Kajal had already been taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. She was later shifted to a private hospital in Ghaziabad, where she remained on life support for five days before succumbing to her injuries on January 27.

A chilling call

“He told me to put the call on recording, said it could be used as police evidence; (then) told me he was killing her. And then, I heard her screams,” Nikhil recalled, describing the moments before the call ended abruptly. According to Nikhil, the sequence of events began with a call from Ankur. “He called me and said, ‘Apni behen ko samjha le’ (Make your sister understand). I asked him to calm down and immediately called my sister,” he said.

“She normally wouldn’t tell us much about what was happening, but that day she was sharing her ordeal. While we were speaking, he got angry that she was telling me things and snatched the phone from her,” Nikhil said.

“Then he said to me, ‘Is call ko recording pe rakh, police evidence me kaam aayega. Main maar raha hoon teri behen ko. Police mera kuch nahi kar payegi’ (Put this call on recording, it will be useful as police evidence. I am killing your sister. Police won’t be able to do anything). Then I heard her screams. The call ended abruptly,” he said.

Barely five minutes later, Nikhil said he received another call. “He (Ankur) said, ‘Ye mar gayi hai. Hospital aajao’ (She is dead. Come to the hospital). We rushed there with police personnel. He and his family were already present. When I saw my sister not even an enemy kills someone like this,” he said.

Brutal Assault Inside the Home

Delhi Police officials stated that the assault occurred around 10 pm following a domestic dispute. Investigators allege that Ankur smashed Kajal’s head against a door frame and then struck her repeatedly with a dumbbell. Forensic teams later recovered bloodstains from the door frame and the dumbbell, believed to be the weapon used in the attack.

Initially booked for attempt to murder, Ankur was arrested within hours. After Kajal’s death, the charges were converted to murder. He has since been remanded to judicial custody.

Allegations of Dowry Harassment

Kajal’s family has accused Ankur and his relatives of persistent dowry demands despite the marriage being a love marriage. Her parents said they spent nearly ₹20 lakh on the wedding and gave gold jewellery, cash, and a Bullet motorcycle. Despite this, Ankur allegedly continued to demand a car.

According to the family, Kajal later bought a car using her own money. They also claimed that Ankur had taken ₹5 lakh from her earlier but remained dissatisfied.

Abuse During Pregnancy

The family alleged that Kajal was subjected to physical and emotional abuse even during her pregnancy. Nikhil recalled an incident months earlier when Kajal was slapped by her husband. Despite apologies and assurances, the abuse allegedly continued.

Kajal was also reportedly made to perform household chores despite being pregnant and serving as an active-duty police commando. The couple’s one-and-a-half-year-old son is now in the care of his maternal grandparents.

Investigation Ongoing

Police have stated that financial stress and domestic disputes may have contributed to the incident, noting that the couple had taken loans and frequently argued over expenses. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have assured strict legal action.

Kajal, posted with the Special Cell’s SWAT team, is being remembered by colleagues as a dedicated officer whose life was tragically cut short.
