India’s Swasth Nari Campaign Sets Three Guinness World Records

The CSR Journal Magazine

India’s latest nationwide initiative for women’s health, the “Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan”, has achieved global recognition by securing three Guinness World Records. Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi between 17 September and 2 October 2025, coinciding with Poshan Maah, this campaign marks a new chapter in the country’s preventive and community-centred healthcare.

The remarkable scale and ambition of the Swasth Nari campaign have set new benchmarks not just for India, but also as a global model for reaching women with essential health services. The Union Health Ministry, supported by more than 20 central government ministries, state departments, and a network of private and public healthcare workers, organised health outreach on a scale never attempted before in the history of the country.

Historic Milestones in Public Health

The Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan was meticulously planned to ensure that every corner of India felt its impact. Guinness World Records recognised three stand-out achievements from this drive. First, a record 3.21 crore people registered on a healthcare platform in just one month. Second, a new world record was set with over 9.94 lakh women registering for breast cancer screening online in just one week. Third, the campaign recorded 1.25 lakh people signing up for vital signs screening through state-level platforms within a single week.

These accolades are a testament to India’s collective resolve to transform the health landscape, placing women and families at the centre. The initiative reached every district, leaving no section untouched and drawing in an impressive array of participants.

Unprecedented Community Participation

One of the most striking features of the campaign was the unprecedented scale of community mobilisation. Health camps, numbering nearly 19.7 lakh, were held throughout the country. Over 11 crore people accessed health services through these camps and digital health platforms. The government actively drew on the support of the whole society—over five lakh Panchayati Raj representatives, 1.14 crore students, 94 lakh members of self-help groups, and five lakh members from various other community platforms participated in driving the success of the programme.

The “whole-of-government” and “whole-of-society” approach paved the way for a broader vision, drawing resources and support not only from government agencies, but also from private hospitals, doctors, medical colleges, local volunteers, and civil society organisations. Senior leaders, including MPs and MLAs, added their support, driving awareness and ensuring the benefits reached even the most marginalised communities.

Impactful Screenings and Services

The Swasth Nari Abhiyaan was not only about gathering large numbers, but about providing meaningful healthcare to millions of Indian women and families near their homes. The health check-up camps provided a wide range of services, including both general and specialist screenings.

Over the course of the campaign, 1.78 crore individuals were screened for hypertension, and 1.73 crore for diabetes. The focus on cancer screening saw over 37 lakh women checked for breast cancer, and 19 lakh for cervical cancer, with over 69.5 lakh people undergoing oral cancer screening. The campaign also ensured comprehensive maternal and child health, conducting more than 62.6 lakh antenatal check-ups, administering 1.43 crore vaccine doses to children, and running 1.51 crore anaemia tests. Nutrition counseling sessions reached more than 1.16 crore participants and more than 10.2 lakh women were tested for sickle cell disease. Tuberculosis screening covered an additional 85.9 lakh women.

Digital health technology helped to register and track the outcomes, making the campaign an example of how innovation can enable scale and transparency in public health. More than 2.14 crore individuals participated in wellness and health counseling activities, while over 2.68 lakh Nikshay Mitras registered to fight tuberculosis under the campaign.

Empowering ‘Nari Shakti’ and Viksit Bharat

Prime Minister Modi and Health Minister J. P. Nadda celebrated the campaign’s success as a landmark in women’s empowerment and public health. The campaign’s legacy, both leaders asserted, would be found in healthier mothers, stronger families, and a robust, empowered foundation for Viksit Bharat with inclusive growth as its driving force.

Prime Minister Modi stressed that when a mother is healthy, the entire family benefits. The outreach leveraged India’s robust health infrastructure, including Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, Community Health Centres, and District Hospitals, as well as private clinics and mobile health teams. Special screenings were provided for gynaecology, paediatrics, eye care, and ENT. Mental health, dental services, and dietary advice were also made available, with an aim to promote comprehensive wellness.

This campaign has shown that with the right blend of government leadership, digital innovation, and mass participation, public health can truly become a people’s movement in India. It stands as a proud example of what unity, planning, and the spirit of service can achieve in pursuit of healthier, stronger communities.

Looking Ahead

The record-breaking achievements of the Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan have provided a strong foundation for future health programmes aimed at women and children. The commitment shown by millions of ordinary Indians, government servants, and health professionals demonstrates the growing awareness and demand for preventive care and wellness in society.
