“Deserve to Die”: Indian Man Accused of Murdering Registered Sex Offender in California

The CSR Journal Magazine

Authorities have arrested a 29‑year‑old man, Varun Suresh, for the fatal stabbing of 71‑year‑old David Brimmer, a convicted sex offender listed on California’s Megan’s Law site. The Fremont Police Department says the attack was premeditated and targeted.

Hunt for a Registered Offender

Investigators say Suresh used the public sex offender registry to identify Brimmer as a target. On his phone, officials discovered screenshots of multiple registry profiles, including Brimmer’s. In the minutes leading up to the attack, Suresh allegedly made a screenshot of Brimmer’s profile just 45 minutes before the homicide.

To gain access, Suresh is accused of posing as a certified public accountant making neighborhood calls. He purportedly carried a notebook, a coffee cup, and a bag to lend credibility to his ruse. He visited homes in the area before approaching Brimmer’s particular residence, presumably to reduce suspicion.

Entry, Confrontation, and Murder

Once at Brimmer’s door, Suresh greeted him, shook hands, and said, “I knew I had the right guy.” He then forced Brimmer inside and began his attack. Brimmer managed to escape for a time and attempted to alert a passing car, but received no assistance.

Suresh pursued him for two blocks and they ended up in a neighbor’s kitchen. During the confrontation, Suresh asked Brimmer if he believed in God, telling him to “get his last words in.” He stabbed Brimmer in the neck and, as Brimmer tried to crawl away, slit his throat.

Court documents also state that Suresh told Brimmer to “repent”. He further said: “It is not your duty to decide whether Heaven will accept them, it’s your duty to send them to the gates.”

Motivation, Statements, and Attitude

Suresh is said to have admitted to law enforcement that he targeted sex offenders because “they hurt children.” He reportedly said all sex offenders “deserve to die.” After his arrest, he described the murder as “honestly really fun” and displayed no remorse.

In his statements to police, Suresh claimed he had long wanted to kill someone from that registry. He told investigators he did not plan to escape and would have turned himself in. He also said: “I’m hoping that because [the victim is] a pedophile… like, everyone hates pedophiles… so like, it should be cool. It should be cool.”

No Prior Link Between Victim and Suspect

Officials confirmed there was no prior relationship between Suresh and Brimmer. The attack appears to have been purely motivated by Brimmer’s status as a convicted sex offender and inclusion on the public registry. Brimmer’s conviction dated back to 1995 for committing lewd and lascivious acts with a minor; he had served a nine-year prison term.

Past Criminal Behaviour and History

Suresh’s record includes a 2021 arrest linked to a fake bomb threat, burglary, and making criminal threats. At that time, he reportedly claimed he was “hunting” the CEO of Hyatt Hotels, alleging he was a pedophile. He also admitted to leaving a suspicious bag at a Hyatt Place in Fremont, prompting fear and investigation.

During the 2021 arrest, Suresh made similar claims about targeting individuals he suspected of sexual crimes.

Charges, Investigation, and Legal Outlook

Following his apprehension, Suresh was charged with murder, residential burglary, and causing great bodily injury. The Fremont Police Department described the killing as a targeted assault based on Brimmer’s age and prior offenses.

Authorities continue to probe whether Suresh had identified others on the registry as potential victims. A preliminary hearing is expected soon.
