The newly introduced e-Passport integrates a secure Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chip that safely contains the holder’s biometric information, such as photographs and fingerprints, in encrypted form within the passport booklet.

A distinctive gold symbol on the front cover indicates the presence of the RFID chip, crucial for its operation. The e-Passport meets the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards, ensuring global recognition for automated identity verification and enhanced overall security.

Benefits of the e-Passport for Travelers

Indian expatriates are encouraged to apply for the e-Passport as soon as possible to leverage its advantages. Existing Passports Remain Valid

Current passports without an embedded chip will continue to be valid until their expiration. Application Process and Requirements

From October 28, 2025, all passport applications in the UAE, including renewals and new requests, must be submitted through the GPSP 2.0 portal, which supports online registration, document uploads, and appointment scheduling at BLS centers in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Applicants should adhere to ICAO standards for photographs to avoid any delays or rejections in their applications.
