India gained independence from its colonial rulers on 15th of August, 1947. Today, it has been 75 years since India gained freedom. On this occasion, the government of India has launched the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ initiative to commemorate the glorious history of India’s people, culture and achievements. The campaign is dedicated to the people of India who have not only been instrumental in bringing India this far in its evolutionary journey but also hold within them the power and potential to enable the vision of activating India 2.0, fuelled by the spirit of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
The official journey of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav commenced on 12th March 2021 which started a 75-week countdown to our 75th anniversary of independence and will end post a year on 15th August 2023.
The Mahotsav symbolizes the awakening of the nation, the festival of fulfilling the dream of good governance and of global peace and development.

Aim of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav

The Mahotsav is being celebrated with the intention of developing a vision for India in 2047. The five pillars of the Mahotsav are the fight for independence, the ideas of 75 years, the accomplishments of 75 years, the acts of 75 years, and the resolutions of 75 years. The purpose of these pillars is to educate the next generation about the history and struggle for freedom.
Additionally, it is to motivate them to advance and bring about the dream of an independent India. Amrit Mahotsav is a celebration honouring our freedom soldiers and the struggle for Indian independence.

The themes of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav

Five overarching themes—Freedom Struggle, Idea@75, Resolve@75, Actions@75, and Achievement@75—are the foundation of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav campaign. To mark the nation’s independence’s 75th anniversary, several events based on the themes were planned over the course of the preceding 75 weeks.
The Idea @ 75 honours the thoughts and principles that have defined India, while the Independence Struggle theme honoured the milestone in Indian history and the unsung heroes of our freedom movement.
While the Actions@75 initiatives highlight the work being done to assist India occupy its proper place in the new global order, the Resolution@75 theme focuses on the nation’s collective resolve and drive to work for a better future. Prime Minister Modi’s rallying cry of “SABKA SAATH, SABKA VIKAS, SABKA VISHWAS, SABKA PRAYAS” serves as the subject.
The campaign’s Achievement @75 theme focuses on commemorating time’s passage and all of India’s prior milestones. It is envisioned that it will develop into a public record of our combined accomplishments as a 75-year-old independent nation with a 5000+ year-old legacy.
The Har Ghar Tiranga campaign is yet another essential component of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. PM Modi urged all citizens to convert the campaign into a popular movement by raising the national flag at their houses when he introduced it at the 91st episode of the monthly Mann Ki Baat. In addition, he requested that users use “tiranga” as their profile photo on social media between August 2 and August 15.
