Gurugram: 13-Year-Old Girl Dies By Suicide, Mentions Academic Pressure in Diary

The CSR Journal Magazine

A 13-year-old girl was found dead inside her home in Gurugram, Haryana, with preliminary investigations suggesting suicide allegedly linked to academic pressure, police said on Thursday. The incident came to light on Wednesday night after the girl retired to her room. The following morning, her mother found the door locked from inside and received no response despite repeated calls.

On looking through a window, the mother reportedly saw her daughter hanging from the ceiling fan. The family immediately informed the police, who arrived at the scene and took custody of the body. It was later sent for post-mortem examination.

Diary Reveals Emotional Distress

Police recovered a diary from the girl’s room that offered insight into her mental state. In her writings, the teenager mentioned feeling overwhelmed by studies and anxious about an upcoming examination scheduled for Thursday. She reportedly wrote that she did not know where to begin her preparation, reflecting significant academic stress.

The diary also indicated that she had gradually withdrawn from her social circle, suggesting emotional isolation in the days leading up to the incident.

Family Recently Shifted to Gurugram

The girl, identified as Aditi, had moved to Gurugram with her family in April 2025 after relocating from Lucknow. She was enrolled in Class 9 at a private school in the city. Her mother is employed in a government department in Hardoi, while her father works with a private company based in Bengaluru.

Police Rule Out Foul Play So Far

Senior police officials stated that statements from the girl’s parents have been recorded and no suspicious circumstances have emerged so far. Her mobile phone has also been examined as part of the investigation.

“The diary clearly mentions stress related to academics. At this stage, nothing indicates external involvement, but the matter is being thoroughly investigated,” said ASI Mahendra Singh.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns around academic pressure and adolescent mental health.
