Actor Govinda has addressed the controversies associated with his name, highlighting the challenges that many actors encounter throughout their careers in the film industry. In a recent interview, he remarked on the rarity of having a flawless image in Bollywood, emphasizing that even renowned stars have gone through difficult times.

‘No One Has a Spotless Image’

During a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Govinda questioned the notion of a “spotless” reputation, stating, “Whose name is spotless in this line? Are you mad? One who has a spotless name must be a dangerous person. If someone is loved too much then they must be scared of him.” He pointed out that while certain qualities, like punctuality and kindness, may enhance an actor’s reputation, a negative image is often a given in the industry.

Actors Often Face Public Criticism

The actor elaborated on how controversies and public criticism frequently arise as an actor navigates their career, indicating that such challenges are nearly unavoidable. He noted, “Sometimes they got out of proportion. Look, in this film industry, everyone at some point is forced out and given a bad reputation.” He also referenced the illustrious career of Amitabh Bachchan, citing how the legendary actor faced a significant hiatus of 14 to 15 years. Govinda questioned whether Bachchan’s absence was due to a lack of professionalism and also mentioned the challenges faced by other prominent figures like Rajesh Khanna.

Govinda explained that societal perceptions can dramatically influence an actor’s career. He stated, “Look at Rajesh Khanna. In the middle of his career, there was an entire group of people saying, ‘No, it’s not good, this is wrong, that is wrong, he looks strange.’ Again, why? It’s a phase you have to go through. How you come out of it, that’s the game.” He also discussed Aamir Khan, whose public image shifted over time after he became associated with the label of ‘perfectionist.’

Renowned for his comedic timing and notable roles in films during the 1990s and early 2000s, Govinda remains a celebrated figure in Bollywood. Despite enjoying significant success in the 1990s, Govinda’s presence in cinema diminished after the early 2000s, leading to fewer film releases in the following years.
