Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on September 21, 2026, that the state government is prioritising the enhancement of cricket infrastructure. He stated that thirty acres of land have been designated for the establishment of a modern cricket academy at Sekerkot. This initiative aims to offer training opportunities for players from various states across the North-East in the near future.

During the Annual Award Distribution Ceremony-2026 organised by the Tripura Cricket Association at Rabindra Bhavan, CM Saha addressed the audience, highlighting the significance of this initiative. He said the completion of an international cricket stadium is also imminent, paving the way for hosting national and international matches soon.

CM Saha elaborated that the government remains committed to cultivating cricket in Tripura as well as the broader North-Eastern region. He expressed confidence that the local cricket academy will serve as a vital training hub for aspiring cricketers.

Support for Tripura Cricket Association

The Chief Minister noted that cricket’s popularity has substantially increased in Tripura, alongside other sports, with many parents now encouraging their children to pursue cricket. The collaborative efforts between the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have produced noticeable improvements, with local players gaining recognition on national platforms.

CM Saha affirmed that the government will continue to extend the necessary legal and administrative assistance to the TCA, ensuring the planned developments materialise effectively. He underscored the importance of infrastructure in enhancing the skills of local athletes.

He also mentioned initiatives being implemented to expedite the completion of the international cricket stadium, which is expected to facilitate larger sporting events. Improved practice facilities are reportedly being developed in various locations such as Kailashahar, Belonia, and Jirania to further promote cricket, especially at rural levels.

Acknowledging Achievements in Tripura Cricket

He highlighted that cricket transcends barriers of religion, caste, and language, uniting people across different backgrounds. The Chief Minister also recognised Tripura’s first-class cricketer Abhijit Sarkar for his notable accomplishments in the Duleep Trophy 2026-27.

Sports Minister Tinku Roy, along with TCA Secretary Subrata Dey, Vice President Upananda Debbarma, and Joint Secretary Jayant Dey, were in attendance, contributing to a ceremony that celebrates the expanding cricket culture in Tripura.
