Google Unveils Lyria 3 Pro AI Music Generation Model with New Features

The CSR Journal Magazine

Google has announced the launch of Lyria 3 Pro, a new artificial intelligence music generation model, following the introduction of Lyria 3 just last month. The upgraded version allows users to craft music tracks that can extend up to three minutes, a notable enhancement from Lyria 3’s maximum track length of 30 seconds. This new model offers improved customization and greater creative control, according to Google’s blog post.

Advanced Musical Composition Understanding

Lyria 3 Pro is designed with a more refined ability to comprehend musical composition, enabling users to specify various song components such as intros, verses, choruses, and bridges. This increased clarity is expected to facilitate experimentation with diverse musical styles and the generation of songs featuring intricate transitions. The model aims to provide musicians and creators with tools for enriched musical expression.

Availability Across Google Platforms

The Lyria 3 Pro model is now available for public preview on multiple Google platforms. Businesses can access it through Vertex AI, while developers can utilize it via Google AI Studio. Additionally, the tool is available on Google Vids, and it is also accessible to paid users of the Gemini app. Both Lyria 3 and Lyria 3 Pro are capable of generating music from a variety of prompts, including text, photos, and videos.

Flexible Music Track Creation

Users can create music tracks using descriptive text that captures specific genres, moods, inside jokes, or memories. In response, the model generates music accompanied by either lyrics or instrumental segments tailored to these prompts. Moreover, users have the ability to generate tracks based on images or videos; by uploading visual content, Gemini analyzes it and composes a corresponding song that aligns with the conveyed emotions.

Source Material and AI Content Identification

Google has trained the Lyria 3 Pro model using a variety of materials sourced from YouTube and other media, for which the company holds usage rights. Significantly, music produced by Lyria 3 Pro incorporates SynthID technology, enabling easier identification of AI-generated content, thereby addressing authenticity concerns raised in recent discussions surrounding AI music.

Concerns Over AI-Generated Content in the Music Industry

The introduction of Lyria 3 Pro occurs amid rising concerns regarding the influx of low-quality, mass-produced AI-generated songs on music streaming platforms like Spotify. While users have the option to bypass such tracks, there have been instances where some of these songs were misattributed to actual musicians. To counter this trend, Spotify is reportedly testing a new feature called Artist Profile Protection, aimed at allowing artists to review new releases before they become publicly associated with their profiles.

Industry Response to AI Music Proliferation

Recently, Sony demanded the removal of over 135,000 AI-generated tracks from Spotify after it was revealed that these songs were impersonating real artists. Additionally, the rise of AI-generated music continues to occupy the space left by bands that have exited Spotify, further intensifying debates over the implications of artificial intelligence in music creation.
