About the Film Boong

Boong illustrates the journey of a young boy who embarks on an emotional quest to find his missing father, motivated by a desire to reunite his parents as a gift for his mother. Director Lakshmipriya Devi explained that “Boong” translates to “little boy” in the Manipuri language. At its essence, the film revolves around themes of love, hope, and longing, encapsulating a simple yet powerful narrative.

International Recognition and Screening

The film had its premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival in the Discovery section, after which it was showcased at numerous esteemed festivals, including the Warsaw International Film Festival and the International Film Festival of India. Following its festival circuit, Boong was released in select Indian cities and PVR INOX cinemas on September 19, 2025. This trajectory highlights the film’s international acclaim and underscores its unique storytelling.
