Family Seeks CBI Probe into Mysterious Death of Indore Man in Meghalaya; Wife Still Missing

The family of Raja Raghuvanshi, a newlywed from Indore whose body was discovered near Weisawdong Falls in Meghalaya, has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the circumstances surrounding his death. Raja’s body was found on Monday afternoon at the Riat Arliang parking lot in Umblai, Sohra, approximately 25 kilometers from where his scooter was located.

On Tuesday, outside the morgue at NEIGRIHMS in Shillong, Raja’s brother, Govind Raghuvanshi, called on Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma to initiate a CBI probe into the incident.

“It would be best if a CBI team from Delhi is brought in,” Govind said, expressing concerns of a potential cover-up. He alleged that the Meghalaya government and local authorities were downplaying the possibility of murder.

Govind questioned the credibility of the investigation being conducted by East Khasi Hills police, accusing them of prematurely ruling out foul play. “How could my brother’s body end up in a deep, fenced-off gorge, 25 kilometers from his parked scooty, unless he was killed?” he asked.

Sonam Raghuvanshi untraceable

Raja and his wife Sonam were married just weeks ago, on May 12. According to Govind, the couple was happy and their marriage was a love union. He suspects that Raja may have been kidnapped and murdered, citing the mysterious absence of several personal items, including two rings, a gold necklace, a bracelet, and his wallet.

“If this were a case of suicide or an accident, those items wouldn’t be missing,” he claimed.

The family is also deeply concerned about Sonam Raghuvanshi’s whereabouts, as she remains untraceable since the incident. Govind confirmed that a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has joined the search efforts.

“We are waiting for the post-mortem report, which we believe will offer crucial insights into what truly happened,” Govind said. The family plans to take Raja’s body back to Indore for the final rites.

Sonam’s brother, who accompanied Govind during the media briefing, joined the call for a transparent and high-level investigation.
