Dhurandhar Rewrites Box Office History, Crosses Rs 1,000 Crore Worldwide in Three Weeks

The CSR Journal Magazine

Bollywood has found its biggest success story of 2025 in Dhurandhar. The Aditya Dhar–directed spy thriller has crossed the Rs 1,000 crore mark at the global box office within just 21 days of release, cementing its status as the highest-grossing Indian film of the year. The milestone was confirmed by the film’s producers, Jio Studios.

What makes the achievement even more striking is the film’s performance deep into its theatrical run. On Day 21, Dhurandhar recorded a strong jump in collections, earning Rs 28.60 crore nett in India, a figure nearly identical to its opening-day numbers. This unexpected surge pushed the film’s domestic nett total to ₹668.80 crore, indicating sustained audience interest well into its third week.

The film’s global earnings now stand at Rs 1,006.7 crore, with ₹789.18 crore gross coming from India and Rs 217.50 crore contributed by overseas markets. It had already crossed Rs 944 crore worldwide by Day 20, and the Christmas holiday further accelerated its run. Despite facing competition from newer releases, Dhurandhar has remained the top choice for moviegoers.

In India alone, the film has delivered consistently strong numbers across weeks. It collected Rs 218 crore in its opening week, followed by Rs 261.5 crore in week two. While collections appeared to stabilise in the third week, daily earnings from Day 18 to Day 21 proved otherwise, culminating in one of the film’s biggest single-day totals on its 21st day.

Dhurandhar Overtakes Big Releases

With this performance, Dhurandhar has overtaken major releases like Kantara Chapter 1 and Chhaava, both of which were considered benchmarks earlier in the year. The film has now joined the ranks of India’s all-time box office giants, standing alongside titles such as Baahubali 2, RRR, KGF Chapter 2, Pathaan and Jawan. Its next challenge is to surpass Kalki 2898 AD, which currently holds a worldwide total of Rs 1,042.25 crore.

Directed, written and co-produced by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar features Ranveer Singh in the lead role, supported by an ensemble cast that includes Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi. Ranveer portrays an undercover operative sent into Pakistan’s Lyari region as part of a high-risk intelligence mission.

The film’s success has already led to plans for a sequel. Dhurandhar 2 is scheduled to release on March 19, 2026, and will be released in Hindi along with multiple South Indian languages.

With Dhurandhar delivering a massive year-end win after Chhaava’s early success, 2025 is shaping up as a rare year where Bollywood not only dominated the box office but also reclaimed audience attention on a large scale.
