Delhi Metro to Start Service at 3:30 AM on February 22 for New Delhi Marathon

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will initiate train services at 3:30 AM on Sunday, February 22, to support participants of the New Delhi Marathon 2026. Services will be available on three significant lines: Yellow, Blue, and Violet. According to a post made by Delhi Metro on X, train operations will commence from terminal stations at 03:30 AM until 06:00 AM, running at 30-minute intervals.

After this period, the services will revert to the regular Sunday schedule for the following lines: Yellow Line from Samaypur Badli to Millennium City Centre Gurugram, Blue Line from Dwarka Sector 21 to Noida Electronic City and Vaishali, and Violet Line from Kashmere Gate to Raja Nahar Singh. Trains on all remaining lines will follow the standard Sunday timetable.

The New Delhi Marathon is recognized as an annual running event that features a full marathon distance and is labeled as the National Championship, organized by NEB Sports. This event allows participants to compete alongside top athletes from across the country, and many of the performances are of such caliber that they qualify participants for national representation. The marathon consistently showcases impressive athletic achievements each year.

Delhi Government Advances Metro Expansion Plans

In a significant development for the public transport infrastructure of the capital, the Delhi government has approved Metro Phase V(A) through a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. This ambitious initiative is set to introduce three new corridors, extending a total of 16 kilometers and incorporating 13 new metro stations. The projected budget for the entire venture amounts to Rs 12,014.91 crore, with the Delhi Government contributing Rs 2,940.46 crore. Completion of this project is scheduled for the year 2028, as stated in a release from the Chief Minister’s Office.

Government Emphasizes Environmental Goals

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his backing of the project, underscoring its significance as a vital component of the “7-C Vision” for transportation. This vision promotes common, connected, convenient, congestion-free, charged, clean, and cutting-edge mobility solutions. Gupta highlighted the importance of enhancing public transport to achieve goals related to environmental protection and net-zero emissions. The implementation of Metro Phase V(A) is seen as a crucial step towards these objectives, reflecting the government’s commitment to developing a sustainable urban transport framework.
