Delhi to Get its Third Skywalk at Madhuban Chowk

The Public Works department is planning to construct a skywalk at the famous Madhuban Chowk of Northwest Delhi. The place witnesses heavy traffic and is also one of the top 10 black spots that are accident-prone in the capital city. This walkway will ensure the safety of pedestrians and will also help to divert traffic around Rohini Court, Pritampura market and the mall.

The earlier plan of PWD was to construct an 800 m long foot overbridge that connects to the Metro corridors of Pritampura. However, the new plan now is to construct a skywalk at Madhuban Chowk, which connects the Rohini court directly with Pitampura Metro Station of the red line. The other side of the skywalk will connect to the newly constructed station between Janakpuri West and RK Ashram on the pink line.

“The estimated cost of the skywalk is ₹17.5 crore. A proposal stating that PWD will hand over the project to DMRC, as it is already working on phase 4 of the Metro line in the area, has been sent to the minister for approval. The PWD will give DMRC the budget for the construction,” said an official to the national media.

Accident-Prone Area

A significant number of accidents have occurred at Madhuban Chowk between 2020 to 2023, including ten fatalities on average per annum. If this project takes off, Delhi’s third skywalk will save pedestrians and vehicles from any further accidents around Madhuban Chowk. The first skywalk was constructed at ITO, which connects to Tilak Marg, Pragati Maidan and Supreme Court Metro Station. The second one is located on the South campus and connects the metro station with Satya Niketan and further.
