Delhi Education Department Identifies 56 Government Schools With Worst Performance

The Delhi Education Department has identified 56 government schools in the capital city with the lowest pass percentage in Classes IX and XI during the 2024–25 academic session. Talks of placing the selected government schools under the direct mentorship of senior officials are underway.

This list was prepared based on results analysed by the Directorate of Education (DoE) Exam Branch. Schools with Class IX pass percentages as low as 45.37% were included in the list and include the Government Co-ed Secondary School in East Azad Nagar.

Other government schools with lower pass percentages in Class IX include Qutub Road SBV, Katewara GBSSS, Bindapur GBSSS, and several others, recording pass percentages in the range of 51% to 59%.

The only two schools that flagged lower performance in Class XI were Sundar Nagri GBSSS and Keshav Puram SBV.

Way Forward

The Directorate of Education has assigned one official to each of these schools to mentor overall academic performance during the upcoming 2025–26 session. According to a circular released by the Directorate on Tuesday, “Mentors are expected to visit the respective schools at least once in a fortnight and submit the inspection report… preferably on the same day of visit.”

Deputy Directors of Education from various zones and districts have also been tasked with adopting schools from the list. After conducting the inspection, the officers are to submit an updated, detailed report on the Delhi Education Management Information System.

Officials are required to assess a comprehensive set of academic indicators, including identification of low-performing subjects, teacher vacancies, student attendance, availability of learning materials, usage of NCERT books, and the status of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) labs. The officials will also check whether school heads and teachers have adopted individual low-performing students for academic mentoring and whether their progress is being tracked or not.
