KEI Industries Ltd, country’s leading wire and cable manufacturer is extending its focus on educating the girl child under the corporate social responsivity. KEI has launched “Siksha Jyoti campaign” during this Diwali amidst COVID. The campaign supports education for girls during the pandemic by providing them with “Study More kit” and “Siksha Jyoti Website ” that is dedicated to online learning for students of classes 5th to 12th. Till now over 1 lakh families have joined this campaign.
Shiksha Jyoti Campaign is reaching out to girl-child belonging to the underprivileged class and is aimed to facilitate the continuity of their education. “Study More kit” is an education hamper to address the lack of guidance to access online education, accessories, data & a dedicated website for this new class of online learners, who are attending online classes.
According to UNESCO, UN’s education agency, Education of over 154 crore students has been disrupted globally after their schools were shut down due to the Coronavirus epidemic, due to which girls will be the worst hit as it will lead to increased drop-out rates and further entrench gender gaps in education.
Commenting on the campaign, Mrs Archana Gupta, Director, KEI industries said “We as a brand that is associated with lighting, our social commitment also resonates with lighting the lives of girl children who suffer the most in troubled times and corona pandemic is no exception. My inherent belief is in the fact that education is the main medium which will help the cause of girls in the country. Educating girls means educating the family.”
She further added, “According to recent studies by PFI – there will be 20% more secondary education drop out of girls and our interaction with the electrician community who are associated with us reiterated the need to address this issue. We mapped the needs & set out to meet these in the troubled times when the schools are shut indefinitely on account of the pandemic.”
This campaign engages girls across the country & they are given the opportunity to register to study more kits, so that she can study without constraints of data or accessories & do not suffer on account of guidance. These beneficiaries are also encouraged to spread the awareness of the Shiksha Jyoti website in their peer group & neighbourhood so that more & more girls can access study material and get benefited from Shiksha Jyoti Initiative.
