CBSE and Narcotics Control Bureau Partner to Create Drug-Free School Environment

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has taken a significant step to combat substance abuse among students by partnering with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. This collaborative initiative aims to build safe and drug-free environments in CBSE-affiliated schools across the country. The partnership will kick off with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) scheduled for 3rd September 2025 in New Delhi. This marks the beginning of a comprehensive campaign designed to raise awareness, educate, and empower students, school principals, and counsellors to fight drug abuse.

Collective Effort Against Substance Abuse

Substance abuse remains a serious concern impacting the health, well-being, and future prospects of young students. Recognising the school as a critical environment for prevention, the CBSE and NCB will launch joint awareness programmes that include workshops, seminars, and counselling sessions. The initiative focuses not only on students but also on principals and counsellors, equipping them with the necessary tools and strategies to identify early signs of drug misuse and help students make healthy choices. Schools will serve as pivotal points for spreading positive lifestyle messages and reducing the risk of drug addiction among youth.

Details of the Anti-Drug Initiative

The official MoU signing ceremony will take place at the CBSE headquarters in Dwarka, New Delhi, on 3rd September 2025. Immediately following this event, an Awareness Programme will be organised specifically for principals and counsellors from CBSE schools nationwide. The programme will run from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and aims to strengthen the role of educators in fostering drug-free school communities. Registration for this programme will be on a first-come, first-served basis, and there will be no registration fee for participants, although travel and accommodation will be self-funded. Interested parties are encouraged to participate actively in this crucial national effort.

Empowering Educators and Students for a Drug-Free Future

Through this partnership, CBSE and the NCB plan to develop an ongoing framework that ensures continuous education about the risks of substance abuse. The initiative builds on previous campaigns such as “Say No to Drugs, Yes to Life,” which engaged thousands of students in interactive sessions focusing on prevention strategies. The legal foundation supporting this effort is the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, which enforces strict penalties for drug-related offences while promoting rehabilitation. By joining hands, the two organisations aim to empower students with knowledge and awareness that will help them resist the lure of drugs and lead healthier, more productive lives.

With this nationwide drive, CBSE and NCB are underscoring the importance of education in the fight against drug abuse. Schools will soon become centres of hope and strength where young minds learn to make responsible choices, supported by well-informed educators and counsellors. This partnership is a landmark step towards a drug-free India starting from the very roots of its future generation.
