Family Feud Erupts in BRS: Kavitha Suspended After Bombshell Charges Against Cousins

The CSR Journal Magazine

BRS MLC K Kavitha has been suspended from the party by her father, KCR, following her explosive accusations against senior BRS figures within the family. She charged her cousins ex-Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao and former MP J Santosh Rao with orchestrating a campaign to smear both her father’s image and her political standing.

The day after her fiery public criticisms, the party’s central leadership, citing that her recent comments “went against the policies and principles of the BRS,” announced the suspension.

Kavitha Slams BRS Over Secret Ouster and Leaked Letter to KCR

Kavitha’s claims also extended to being ousted from her honorary post in the Telangana Boggu Ghani Karmika Sangham (TBGKS) while she was abroad. She slammed the election that removed her as “politically motivated, conducted at the party office without her knowledge,” potentially breaching labor statutes. “A grudge was held against me for simply questioning the party’s internal functioning,” she asserted, blaming insiders for leaking a letter she had penned to KCR. In it, she noted, “As you (KCR) spoke for just two minutes, some people began speculating that there will be a tie‑up with BJP in future. Even I personally felt that you should have spoken strongly (against BJP). It might be probably because I suffered (because of BJP). But you should have targeted BJP some more, Daddy.” She questioned, “What’s wrong in writing a letter?” and lamented that instead of tracing the leak, “the leadership turned its power against me.”

Kavitha also raised alarms about a possible BRS–BJP merger, which she claimed to have strongly opposed even during her time in jail.

Supporters swiftly rallied in her defense. Ravi Rathod, youths’ vice president of the Telangana Jagruthi (the social organisation Kavitha founded amid the statehood movement), called the suspension a grave injustice and led protests.

Kavitha Links Cousins to Kaleshwaram Scam, Claims KCR Was Used

Her allegations surfaced as the Telangana government transferred the investigation into Kaleshwaram project irregularities to the CBI. Kavitha implicated Harish Rao and Santosh Kumar for aligning with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and enriching themselves at her father’s expense. “Some who are close to KCR benefited in many ways by making use of his name,” she said. “Did Harish Rao … not have a major role in this?”

Complicating the narrative, her brother KTR publicly praised Harish Rao’s presentation on related irrigation issues as a “master class,” fueling speculation about a growing power tussle. Earlier this year, KTR was seen excluding Kavitha by reassigning her previous leadership role in a key coal miners’ union to another party member.

This conflict follows a prior episode when Kavitha reacted strongly to a private letter of hers being released publicly. She lamented the betrayal, accusing those “devils around” her father for causing internal discord. Despite visible tensions, she assured that hers remained a “special relationship” with KTR, decrying the party’s patriarchal leanings and its failure to promote women, especially amid discourse around the Women’s Reservation Bill.
