The Adani Foundation’s Adani Skill Development Centre (ASDC) at ACC Chaibasa has recently transformed the life of Poonam Nayak through its training and placement programme.
With her education halted after 10th grade due to financial constraints, Poonam has found a new path through ACC’s Automotive Service Technician course. Recognising her potential, the ASDC team provided her with not only technical training but also essential life skills, mentorship, and a supportive environment that empowered her to pursue a sustainable livelihood.
Throughout her training, Poonam demonstrated remarkable commitment and resilience, which her trainers fostered through hands-on learning and guidance. The programme equipped her with industry-relevant skills, opening doors to employment opportunities that would otherwise have been out of reach.
Upon completing her training, ACC facilitated her job placement at Tata Electronics, ensuring that her journey did not simply end with skills acquisition but extended to a real-world application, enabling her financial independence.
ACC and the Adani Foundation’s commitment to empowering rural youth through skill development and sustainable community initiatives is highlighted in Poonam’s journey of triumph. CSR News: Bharat Sanjeevani Krishi Utthan initiative to Support 10,000 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPO)
IndusInd Bank Limited (IBL) and Bharat Financial Inclusion Limited (BFIL), a wholly owned subsidiary of IBL announced a collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MoA & FW), Government of India, to launch the Bharat Sanjeevani Krishi Utthan initiative. This initiative aims to support the government’s flagship program, “Formation and Promotion of 10,000 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs)” providing a robust framework to empower FPOs across the country.
FPOs enable farmers to enhance their bargaining power, leverage economies of scale, reduce cost of production and enhance farmers’ incomes through aggregation of their agricultural produce, thus playing a key role towards sustainable incomes. This Central Sector Scheme is part of the Government’s broader strategy to boost agricultural productivity and profitability, particularly for marginalized farmers. This collaboration driven through BFIL and IBL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives aims to enhance agricultural productivity, promote sustainable farming practices, and improve farmers’ income consistently, across 11 states: Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.
Under Bharat Sanjeevani Krishi Utthan initiative, BFIL and IBL will set up a Centralized Project Management Unit (CPMU) at the national level and in 11 target states to effectively monitor, support, and guide the implementation of FPO projects. The MoU marks the first formal collaboration of the Ministry of Agriculture with corporate entities to achieve FPO development goals, underlining the efforts to forge innovative public-private partnerships for rural empowerment. Through this MoU, BFIL and IBL will provide technical support in areas like data management, capacity-building, and IT infrastructure, creating a sustainable growth path for the FPOs by helping them optimize their operations, build resilience, and scale their businesses. BFIL and IBL will deploy experts in the areas of agriculture/horticulture production, food processing technology, market linkages, cold chains, social sector etc., to coordinate day-to-day activities to help drive the program.
The MoU was signed by Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MoA & FW), Government of India, BFIL and IBL.
Commenting on this significant partnership, Mr. Faiz Ahmed Kidwai, Additional Secretary, MoA & FW, GoI, said, “BFIL and IBL’s commitment to leveraging technology in agriculture is commendable. By utilizing IT solutions, providing project management support, and extending their expertise, BFIL & IBL are empowering farmers to make data-driven decisions and enhance their production practices, contributing to the growth and sustainability of the agricultural sector.”
Mr. Srinivas Bonam, Head – Inclusive Banking, CSR & Sustainability, IBL, said, “Our collaboration with the Government of India, reflects a milestone in our journey towards fostering sustainable and inclusive growth. By expanding our support from agri-allied services to mainstream agriculture, we are aligning with the national goal of agricultural resilience and empowerment for rural India.”
Mr. J Sridharan, Executive Vice Chairman, BFIL, added, “Through this MoU with the Ministry of Agriculture to launch Bharat Sanjeevani Krishi Utthan initiative supporting FPOs, we are proud to contribute technology-driven solutions that benefit farmers directly. Our consistent work in agri-allied sectors has prepared us well to now apply similar expertise to agriculture, where we aim to build strong, productive FPOs that will improve the farmers’ income robustly and in a sustainable way.”
Having successfully demonstrated their expertise in the agri-allied sectors through the Bharat Sanjeevani, a digital initiative that supports rural communities by providing comprehensive veterinary services directly to farmers, BFIL and IBL are now extending their support to the agriculture sector through this partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture. BFIL, IBL and the Ministry will jointly review progress on a quarterly basis, ensuring the achievement of project milestones and addressing any challenges that may arise.
Building on this partnership with the Government of India, BFIL and IBL reaffirm their dedication to the growth and sustainability of India’s agricultural sector by providing essential resources and support to farmers.

Delhi chokes as AQI exceeds 1500, schools to be held online

Delhi chokes as AQI exceeds 1500, schools to be held online
Delhi chokes as AQI exceeds 1500, schools to be held online
It is that time of the year when Delhi is hitting the headlines again for poor air quality posing severe health hazards for the residents. The national capital is currently experiencing alarming levels of air pollution, with the Air Quality Index exceeding 1500 as a result of which, the central government has imposed Stage-4 restrictions under Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) from Monday, 18th November. The decision was taken by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), the Centre’s panel monitoring Delhi-NCR air quality.
A blanket of toxic smog covered Delhi on Monday morning as Air Quality Index (AQI) levels breached the 1,500 mark in several areas, which led to the implementation of GRAP Stage-4. Residents have been advised to stay indoors, use N95 masks while stepping outdoors, and avoid exhausting physical activities, while all schools have been temporarily advised to stop offline classes, keeping in mind the potential health hazards for students.

Online classes for all Delhi schools

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has announced that classes will be held online in the national capital for all schools starting on Monday due to the imposition of GRAP Stage-4. This will be applicable to all classes except standards 10 and 12 who will continue to have offline classes until further announcement.
“All the Heads of government, government aided and unaided private recognised schools of DoE, MCD, NDMC and DCB in Delhi are hereby directed to ensure that the physical classes for all students upto (sic) class nine and class eleven is (sic) to be discontinued from November 18 until further orders,” according to a circular issued by the Directorate of Education.

GRAP Stage-4 and restrictions

The Graded Response Action Plan is a four-stage protocol to fight the air pollution issue in Delhi-NCR. Stage-4 includes putting a temporary halt to construction and demolition activities, encouraging work-from-home protocols in Delhi-NCR, temporarily stopping operations at non-essential industrial units, restricting diesel generators and non-BS VI diesel vehicles (ban on entry of trucks) and conducting campaigns to raise awareness among the residents. Stage-4 of the Graded Response Action Plan is the most severe level, which is implemented after Air Quality Index (AQI) crosses the 450 mark.
According to the order, no trucks will be allowed into Delhi except for those carrying essential items or using clean fuel (LNG/CNG/BS-VI diesel/electric). Non-essential light commercial vehicles registered outside Delhi will also be prohibited, except for EVs and CNG and BS-VI diesel ones. Delhi-registered BS-IV or older diesel medium and heavy goods vehicles are banned, except for those in essential services, the order said.

Most affected areas, low-visibility

On Monday morning, Delhi’s air quality turned hazardous ranging from 1,300 to 1,600 as revealed by Swiss air technology firm IQAir. The most affected areas include Mundka, Dwarka Sector-8, Rohini, Najafgarh, Pooth Khurd, Vivek Vihar and Narela among others. Continued exposure to hazardous air quality can impact the health of the residents severely making them susceptible to respiratory and cardiovascular issues.
Meanwhile, the Delhi International Airport has issued a low-visibility advisory, which reads, “Low visibility procedures are in progress at Delhi Airport. All flight operations are presently normal. Passengers are advised to contact the concerned airline for updated flight information.”
Atishi, Chief Minister, Delhi

CM Atishi criticizes Centre

Criticizing the Centre over the air quality situation across Delhi and North India caused by stubble burning during this time of the year, Delhi CM Atishi tweeted on Monday, “All of North India has been plunged into a medical emergency as stubble burning continues unchecked across the country. All cities across the country – in UP, Bihar, Rajasthan, Haryana, MP and Delhi – are reeling under severe levels of pollution. And yet despite rising severity of stubble burning across India for last 5 years, the Central Govt has taken no concrete step to curb the same. All of North India is paying the price for this, especially children and elderly who are struggling to breathe…”

Schools shut in Haryana, Mumbai Air Quality worsens

Amid rising air pollution levels, the Government of Haryana has announced the temporary closure of all schools up to class 5. The government is planning to implement online classes in both government and private schools.
Meanwhile, Mumbai woke up to a thick layer of smog on Monday morning with the Air Quality Index (AQI) at 147 in the ‘moderate’ category.

Nepal Sends Electricity to Bangladesh via India, Boost to Sub-Regional Connectivity

Nepal Sends Electricity to Bangladesh via India, Boost to Sub-Regional Connectivity
Nepal Sends Electricity to Bangladesh via India, Boost to Sub-Regional Connectivity
When the world stage is witnessing multiple conflicts based on ethnicity and land, the three South Asian countries have shown their synergy in solving the problem of electricity. Nepal announced the export of electricity to Bangladesh via the Indian power grid for the first time, on 15th Nov, 2024. This tripartite arrangement has been planned for almost 2 years and aims to forge energy connectivity between the three nations. This joint venture was inaugurated by Union Power Minister Manohar Lal, Bangladesh de factor Power Minister Mohammed Fouzal Kabir Khan and Nepal’s Energy Minister Deepak Khadka in a virtual event hosted by Nepal’s Ministry of Energy, Water, Resources and Irrigation.
The talks have been on since 2022, following a long-standing request from the Nepal side to use India’s national power grid for exporting electricity to Bangladesh. This power trade agreement is the first of its kind in the entire South Asia. “The historic occasion marks the first trilateral power transaction which has been carried out through the Indian grid.”, said the Indian external affairs ministry in its official statement to the press.

Nepal Premier’s Visit to India

The former Nepalese premier Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ visited New Delhi in May-June 2023, during which the Indian government announced its decision to facilitate a trilateral power transaction from Nepal to Bangladesh through the Indian power grid. As per the deal announced then, the export of up to 40 MW of electricity will be facilitated in the initial stage.
In Dahal’s visit to India, both countries committed to working towards a greater sub-regional corporation in energy, security, and trade. This was done to increase inter-linkage between regional economies and subsequently to extract mutual benefits from all regional stakeholders. This was followed by a formal power sales agreement signed in Kathmandu on October 3rd by three parties: India’s NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam, the Nepal electricity authority and the Bangladesh Development Board.
In a joint statement released after the formal agreement, the authorities stated that “The start of this power flow from Nepal to Bangladesh through India is expected to boost sub-regional connectivity in the power sector”. The daily newspaper Hindustan Times reportedly said that people familiar with the matter say that ‘Bangladesh will pay Nepal for the electricity import while the Indian side will receive a transit fee for the use of its national power grid’.

Expectations from Nepal

Nepal and Bangladesh are not connected with each other territorially and are separated by what is called the ‘Siliguri Corridor’, a 22 km stretch in the Indian state of West Bengal. And so, Nepal will transmit electricity through the 400KV Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur line in India, the Kathmandu Post reported. The same channel will be used every year to transfer 144,000 MWh (megawatt-hour) of electricity to Bangladesh.
The need for the export of electricity to Bangladesh emerges just 1 per cent of the country’s total generation of 24,911 MW through hydroelectricity and only 2 per cent (459 MW) as renewable.  This amount clearly falls short of the actual;l electricity requirements of Bangladesh.
Like Bangladesh, many Himalayan countries fall short of electricity despite the huge potential of the mountain region because of the absence of any connecting grid between countries like Bhutan and Nepal, India, and Bangladesh. As Nepal produces an abundance of hydroelectric, up to 400,000 MW, it cannot only reduce its dependence on fossil fuels but can also export electricity to countries like Bangladesh and Nepal to boost its export-based earnings. This will also save Nepal by reducing its trade deficit, which is currently at a high value of Rs 1.44 trillion. “Bangladesh can easily bring hydroelectricity from Nepal as it is only 40 miles from Bangladesh. Nepalese hydroelectricity will also be cheap.”, said Prof Yunus to The Kathmandu Post. Professor Mohammad Yunus is the chief advisor of Bangladesh and also attended the Azerbaijan COP 29 meet, representing his country.
