Bitten Multiple Times, Hair Pulled: Monkeys Brutally Attack Elderly Woman in Haryana

The CSR Journal Magazine

An elderly woman was injured after a group of monkeys suddenly attacked her in a residential area of Haryana’s Bahadurgarh, raising fresh concerns over the growing presence of monkey troops in urban neighbourhoods. The incident occurred on December 26 at around 1:45 pm and was captured on a CCTV camera installed in the locality.

Sudden Attack Caught on Camera

According to the CCTV footage, the elderly woman was sitting calmly on a chair outside her home when a group of six to seven monkeys surrounded her without warning. Within moments, the animals turned aggressive, pouncing on her and biting her multiple times. The footage also shows the monkeys pulling her hair as she struggled to defend herself.

Rescue Attempt Turns Risky

As the attack unfolded, another woman from the family rushed in to help the victim. However, the monkeys also attempted to bite her, forcing both women to flee the spot after a tense struggle. The incident has left residents shaken, particularly elderly people and children who fear stepping out of their homes.

Victim Identified, Condition Stable

The injured woman was identified as Santosh Devi. She was rushed to a hospital in Delhi for immediate medical attention. Doctors said her condition is stable, though she will require multiple injections as a precaution following the animal bites.

Residents Raise Safety Concerns

Locals say the incident has heightened fear in the neighbourhood. Despite claims by civic authorities that several monkeys have been captured in recent days, residents allege that large troops continue to roam freely in many residential areas of Bahadurgarh.

The attack has once again highlighted the growing human–wildlife conflict in urban zones and the urgent need for sustained and effective measures to ensure public safety.
