Bihar: 27,000 people are being victims of dog bites every month, highest number of cases were registered in THESE cities

Dogs in Bihar have become more aggressive than before and are constantly attacking people. Dog bite cases are also increasing rapidly in Bihar amidst the ongoing discussion on stray dogs in Delhi. According to the health department data, the incidents of dog bites have increased by 22% in the last one year. This figure has doubled in the last four years. This year, on an average, about 27 thousand people have been victims of dog bites every month, while in 2024 this number was about 22 thousand per month.

By August, so many people have been victimised

By August 21 this year, more than 2 lakh 14 thousand people have fallen victim to dog bite. In 2020, this number was 1.25 lakh, 62 thousand in 2021, 1.42 lakh in 2022, 2.42 lakh in 2023 and 2024 to 2.64 lakhs in 2023. The state health committee reports that dogs are now dangerous and attacking people.

Which cities are more vulnerable

This year, the highest number of Dog Bite cases came to light in Patna, where so far 20,407 people have been victims of dogs. After this, 18,836 people were affected in Gopalganj and 18,035 in East Champaran (Motihari). 15,222 in Nalanda, 12,672 in West Champaran, 9,738 in Jehanabad, 8,889 in Purnia, 8,725 in Muzaffarpur, 7,249 in Gaya and 7,173 people in Bhojpur were cut by dogs. From August to August, from one thousand to six thousand people became victims of dog bite.

According to state epidemiologist Dr. Radhika Mishra, it is necessary to take anti -rabies vaccine immediately after the dog bites. If the bite causes a deep wound and the bleeding starts or the meat starts appearing outside, then anti -rabies should also be taken with the vaccine. The Ranti Rabiz Siram is available in the district hospitals and is also sent to the block level if needed. It is kept at special temperature. Its price in the market is around Rs 350 per dose.
