Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Discusses Flood Recovery with PM Modi

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi to discuss vital initiatives aimed at aiding the state’s recovery from devastating floods. In this meeting, Sarma outlined the roadmap for rebuilding areas severely affected by the disaster and restoring the livelihoods of those impacted. He expressed appreciation for PM Modi’s consistent support during the Assam flood crisis, highlighting the importance of federal assistance in these recovery efforts.

During their meeting, Sarma shared comprehensive details of the state government’s initiatives enacted within the first 100 days of his administration, which he termed a demonstration of “good governance.” He stated that the discussions involved the next steps in the ongoing flood recovery efforts, indicating a focused approach on rebuilding infrastructure and community resilience.

Inauguration of Administrative Project in Guwahati

Earlier in the day, Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the new Integrated District Commissioner’s Office Building in Kamrup Metropolitan District, located at Rupnagar, Guwahati. This facility was established with an investment of Rs 81.20 crore and spans approximately 12,700 square metres, designed to enhance the efficiency and organisation of local administrative systems.

The three-storeyed building has been constructed with future expansion in mind, including the potential for adding two additional floors. This emphasis on scalability reflects an awareness of the growing needs of the district as it aims to improve public services and governance.

Special attention has been given to sustainability; the new office building is equipped with a 350-kilowatt solar power system, with provisions for a future upgrade to an additional 100 kilowatts. This commitment to renewable energy underlines the government’s focus on environmentally friendly practices in its infrastructure projects.

Beyond immediate recovery efforts, Sarma reiterated the Assam government’s broader goals, aiming for a comprehensive and sustainable recovery from the floods.
