Air India Accused of Negligence After 82-Year-Old Collapses at Delhi Airport

A woman shared a distressing scenario on social media regarding how Air India neglected her elderly grandmother resulting in major medical complications. Parul Kanwar stated her 82-year-old grandmother sustained injuries because Air India failed to provide a wheelchair that was pre-booked at Delhi Airport before the flight to Bengaluru. The elderly woman collapsed because of the incident and medical staff later put her in the ICU for care.
Parul reported in her post that her grandmother booked a wheelchair before their March 4 flight journey began between Delhi and Bengaluru. The arrival at the airport revealed no wheelchair had been provided to the them. The family received no help from Air India staff nor other airline employees when they sought assistance repeatedly therefore they had to make their grandmother walk through extensive distances. According to Parul the elderly woman entered Terminal 3 to walk through three parking lanes before falling by Air India’s premium economy counter from fatigue. When the woman collapsed no staff member provided assistance so the family had to secure help on their own.

Elderly Admitted to ICU Due to Deep Wounds

The wheelchair transportation took about an hour to appear after which the flight crew failed to perform an adequate health examination before permitting the patient on board despite evident head and face injuries. Flight crew members started the medical care by using ice packs and they organised hospital examinations at the destination airport in Bengaluru. When her grandmother entered the ICU because of suspected brain bleeds the situation worsened through the time.
In her post, Parul expressed her frustration, noting that her grandmother, a widow of a decorated military officer, did not deserve such treatment. She further revealed that her family had filed a formal complaint with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to demand accountability from the airline for its negligence.

Complaint Filed with DGCA

The post written by Parul shows her disappointment while pointing out that her grandmother should not have been mistreated because she is the widow of a decorated military officer. She disclosed that the Aviation Directorate General (DGCA) received the formal complaint her family filed against the airline for its unsafe actions.
Air India responded to Parul’s post, expressing concern for her grandmother’s condition and offering to connect with her directly. However, Parul made it clear that she was not looking for excuses and demanded a thorough investigation into the matter. Social media users voiced their anger at the airline’s poor handling of the situation, with many sharing their own experiences of similar issues with Air India. This incident follows several other complaints regarding the airline’s lack of care and failure to meet basic passenger needs.
The public’s response highlights growing concerns over the airline’s customer service, especially in handling vulnerable passengers, raising questions about Air India’s commitment to improving its service.
