Filmmaker Aditya Dhar expressed optimism about his film Dhurandhar making a bid for the National Film Awards next year. He attended the awards ceremony held in Kevadia, Gujarat, on 22 September 2026, alongside his wife, actress Yami Gautam. Dhar mentioned that his primary purpose for attending the event was to support Gautam, who is receiving the National Film Award for Best Actress for her role in the film Article 370, which Dhar produced.

Honours and Achievements Celebrated

During the event, Dhar acknowledged his recent successes but redirected the attention to Gautam’s achievements. He stated, “We are here for Article 370. We’ll hopefully discuss Dhurandhar if we come next year. But today, it’s all about Article 370.” This highlights the significance of the moment for the couple, particularly for Gautam, as she celebrates her first National Film Award.

In her remarks, Gautam expressed immense joy and disbelief at receiving such a prestigious accolade. The 37-year-old actress articulated her feelings by saying, “It feels great. This is the biggest validation for any artiste. It’s the highest honour that’s presented to you by your country. I don’t think I’ll be able to express it right now.” She reflected on how Article 370 provided her the opportunities she had long desired as an actor.

She further added, “I am still trying to soak in. I am smiling but from the inside, I am still feeling like the energy of a newcomer for whom everything is so big and so special.” Her sentiments underline the emotional weight of the recognition and the impact it has on her professional journey.

Dhurandhar’s Award Prospects

The 72nd National Film Awards are celebrating the best works in Indian cinema from 2024. Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar, which premiered in 2025, will therefore be eligible for nomination in the next annual awards. The filmmaker remains hopeful about the recognition of his work, which has resonated with audiences since its release.

It is also notable that the sequel to Dhurandhar, titled Dhurandhar: The Revenge, was launched in 2026. This allows Dhar the opportunity to submit both films for consideration in future editions of the awards if they meet the eligibility criteria.

Aside from Gautam, the awards also recognised other talents in the film industry this year. Both Kartik Aaryan and Malayalam superstar Mammootty received the Best Actor Award for their respective performances in Chandu Champion and Brahmayugam. Additionally, veteran actor Anant Nag was celebrated with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award this year, underscoring the ceremony’s commitment to honouring excellence in Indian cinema.
