Aditya Dhar Apologises After Dhurandhar Screening Glitches in India

The CSR Journal Magazine

Aditya Dhar, the director of Dhurandhar: The Revenge, has publicly apologized after the film’s paid previews faced significant disruptions in various regions of India. Screenings were delayed or canceled due to technical problems, particularly affecting the dubbed versions of the film, which stars Ranveer Singh, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Bedi. The chaos unfolded as moviegoers expected to enjoy the film, only to encounter widespread issues.

Statement from Aditya Dhar

In response to the challenges, Dhar expressed his regrets regarding the inconvenience experienced by both viewers and exhibitors. Via a public statement shared on X, he stated, “We truly apologize for the inconvenience. Your love for this film means the world to us, and we cannot wait to share it with you.” Dhar’s comments underscore the impact of the disruptions on audience engagement and overall experience.

Specifics on Screening Delays

Not all screenings of the film began as scheduled. While most Hindi versions started at the anticipated time of 5 PM, the Tamil and Telugu adaptations were delayed until 9 PM. Additionally, the Malayalam and Kannada versions faced more significant setbacks, with some being postponed until the following morning. The production team cited “unforeseen technical difficulties” as the cause of these delays, leading to frustration among fans eager to watch the film.

Operational Challenges at Major Theatres

Major cinema chains in key locations, including Delhi NCR and Mumbai, reported operational setbacks, including cancelled and rescheduled shows. The temporary removal of IMAX bookings created further confusion for the audience, compounded by several theaters waiting for the digital print of the film. At Mumbai’s Gaiety Galaxy theatre, patrons gathered as delays continued, with theatre staff advising viewers to consider later screening times. This delay was aggravated by the film downloading process and issues with receiving the Key Delivery Message (KDM).

Impact on Southern Markets

In southern India, both Tamil and Telugu screenings faced last-minute cancellations, resulting in disappointment for many who had pre-booked tickets. Several theaters indicated the “non-availability” of content, particularly affecting those expecting to view the dubbed versions. This situation further intensified the disappointment among audiences who had planned to watch the film.

Remedial Actions for Affected Viewers

To mitigate the situation, the filmmakers provided options for affected viewers, allowing them the choice to either receive a refund or watch the Hindi version with subtitles. Aditya Dhar reiterated his apology to the audience, assuring them that steps were being taken to resolve the operational issues and ensure a smoother screening process moving forward.

Film Specifications and Release Date

Dhurandhar: The Revenge has received an A rating from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The finalized runtime of the film is three hours, forty-nine minutes, and six seconds, and it is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on March 19. This extensive duration and certification may contribute to audience expectations and viewing experiences.
