Jana Nayagan actor and founder of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) Vijay’s personal life is in trouble, as his wife Sangeetha Sornalingam has filed for divorce to dissolve 27 years of marriage. The duo tied the knot in 1999, and they have two kids named Jason Sanjay and Divya Shasha. Their wedding was the talk of the town at that time, as they married with both Hindu and Christian rituals. At the time of the marriage, Vijay was at the peak of his career, and Sangeetha, the daughter of a Tamil industrialist, was Vijay’s biggest fan.
Why did Sangeetha file for divorce from Vijay?
As per the plea, Sangeetha filed for divorce under the Special Marriage Act, 1954, on the grounds of adultery and cruelty. As per the petition, in 2021, Sangeetha discovered that Vijay was involved in an extramarital affair with a female co-star. When she confronted him, he assured her he would end the relationship; however, he continued it without any sign of remorse. She further mentioned in the petition that her actor husband excluded her from both his professional and social engagements and kept on travelling abroad with the unnamed actress. Besides, the pictures of their outings were all over social media, which Vijay never denied, causing both her and her children to feel humiliated.
Mental harassment complaint in the petition
In the petition, Sangeetha mentioned that Vijay withdrew all facilities provided to her and even placed restrictions on finances and her movement. Vijay continued the alleged relationship for more than four years, causing her mental distress. In the petition, Sangeetha also mentioned that the marriage has almost dissolved, existing only on paper, which is causing her ‘mental agony, humiliation and suffering’.
While the matter is being heard before a District Court, this has drawn public attention because Vijay is entering politics at this stage, and the case might damage his reputation. However, it is not yet confirmed whether Vijay’s wife’s claims are true.
