A total of 13 FIRs have been made against 140 social media profiles for distributing inaccurate information about the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. The Uttar Pradesh Police took action after social media users started sharing a video about 300 train fatalities during Maha Kumbh travel. Police investigation has revealed this viral video showed an incident that occurred in Bangladesh in 2022.
The Maha Kumbh Mela has been drawing a huge number of devotees daily to the Triveni Sangam despite false information reports according to DIG Vaibhav Krishna who noted the arrival of over 1 crore pilgrims. “We have registered FIRs against those responsible for spreading fake news and are taking every necessary step to ensure the festival runs smoothly,” he stated.
Crowd Control Measures in Place for Maha Shivratri
As the final day of the Maha Kumbh approaches, significant arrangements have been made for the Maha Shivratri festival, which is expected to attract even larger crowds. Authorities have ensured that there will be no traffic disruptions in the area, with DIG Krishna affirming, “We are fully prepared to handle the crowd, regardless of how massive it may be.”
The police department has concentrated its efforts on managing unruly crowds while combating misinformation at significant locations, particularly the Ayodhya Dham Railway Station. The high number of pilgrims at the station has led Deputy Superintendent of Police Yashwant Singh to deploy over 350 officers for crowd control. Safety protocols including barricades and holding areas are in use and passengers can access the platforms only when trains are set to depart.
Over 62 Crore Footfalls Recorded at Maha Kumbh
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that more than 62 crore devotees have visited the Mela since its commencement. To control the large number of visiting pilgrims throughout the event the state government has passed detailed safety measures to guarantee incident-free operations.
Authorities remain alert against misinformation and continue to manage the logistics of the massive festival as millions of pilgrims make their way to Prayagraj to take part in the sacred dip.
