United States President Donald Trump signed an order to halt the prosecution of Americans accused of bribing foreign government officials with overseas business. The order aims to provide relief to US citizens. However, it will also come as a problem-solving breather for chief executives of the Adani group, who currently face bribery charges in the US court.
The order will also bring relief to Azure Power, the company that has a contract with the Adani group firm for solar projects. The daily newspaper reported that this matter will remain on pause until Donald Trump comes up with new laws.
The order instructs the US Attorney General, Pam Bondi, to hold back prosecutions under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, FCPA of 1977, until revised enforcement guidelines are published to promote American competitiveness. Future FCPA investigations and enforcement will also be governed by this new guideline, which needs approval from the attorney Journal as well.

What the White House Say

According to the White House, the FCPA puts US firms at a disadvantage forum competitors, as they are unable to engage in practices common amongst international competitors, creating an uneven playing field.
A White House factory sheet also said that American national security depends on America and its companies gaining strategic commercial advantage from around the world.
