Demonstrating a strong commitment to environmental sustainability, NatWest Group India has teamed up with their CSR implementation partner, Saahas, to launch Project बिनMalba. With Gurugram’s rapid urbanization exacerbating the Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste crisis, this initiative aims to introduce innovative and scalable waste management solutions, fostering a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable city.
Speaking at the launch, Ms. Ruchika Panesar, Country Head, NatWest Group India, said, “We are happy to launch Project बिनMalba, a dedicated initiative to address the growing challenge of Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste in Gurugram. This initiative embodies our commitment to environmental sustainability, responsible waste management, and a greener future. Over the next 16 months, we aim to develop and implement sustainable, scalable solutions, starting with select areas in Zone 3 of Gurugram, paving the way for a cleaner and more efficient C&D waste management system”.
Project बिनMalba aims to:
– Build awareness among RWAs, waste collector agencies, and civil contractors about their roles in sustainable C&D waste management
– Divert ~2000 MT of C&D waste for recycling and set up a system for reducing illegal dumping by streamlining collection and transportation
– Provide a recommendation report to the MCG, at the end of the project, to help shape a scalable C&D waste management approach for the entire city of Gurugram.”
The launch event featured a panel discussion with key stakeholders, including Dr Balpreet Singh – Additional Commissioner, MCG Gurugram; Mr. Subhash Chander Yadav – Chief Forest Officer; Ms. Archana Tripathi – CEO, Saahas; Mr. Dinesh Kumar – Project Head, C&D plant Gurugram; Ankur Bisen – citizen representative and author of award-winning book, ‘Wasted’ and Mr. Akshat Chadha – Urban Planner, Oasis Design. All panel members emphasized the importance of awareness, responsible disposal, and recycling for sustainable urban development.
Ms. Archana Tripathi – CEO, Saahas, highlighted the importance of awareness amongst all stakeholders, drawing from the organisation’s Bengaluru experience with a similar pilot. She emphasised the need for a clearer understanding among citizens, contractors, and waste generators of their roles and responsibilities in the proper disposal of Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste. Ms. Tripathi also underscored the importance of accessible information on disposal mechanisms and the need for a well-structured collection and transportation system, particularly for non-bulk generators of C&D waste, to prevent illegal dumping and responsible C&D waste management practices.
The event also saw active participation by several RWA representatives, corporate bodies, and engaged citizens, committed to addressing C&D waste management as a pressing urban issue. Experts at the event highlighted the health hazards for residents and the threat to the biodiversity of the Aravalli’s due to unchecked waste dumping.
With this collaboration, NatWest Group India continues to lead by example in fostering environmental sustainability, aligning its efforts with India’s circular economy goals and responsible C&D waste disposal practices.
