Mumbai, India: In an outstanding display of environmental stewardship, the learners and teachers of JBCN International School, Parel rallied together to organize a tree plantation drive at Kalamb, approximately 100 km from Mumbai, supporting their local community and nature at large. With the support of the prominent environmental NGO, Forests by Heartfulness, the recently conducted event was a huge success, highlighting the commitment of the youth in protecting the environment for future generations.
Together, they planted numerous saplings covering 19 different medicinal plants and trees, carefully selected to enhance the local ecosystem. Under the guidance of experts, the children not only planted the trees but also learned about their care and the vital role that trees play in mitigating climate change, improving air quality, and sustaining biodiversity.
Mr Davi Sanchez Netto, Principal, JBCN International School, Parelstated “At JBCN Parel, we embrace the concept of EduCreating Changemakers and every time our learners are brainstorming ideas for problems they have not created, they are developing their analytical and critical thinking skills. The results are tangible and the sight of a large number of our learners voluntarily waking up early on a weekend to plant trees, directly benefiting Kalamb’s community and our state, stands as a powerful testament to the outcomes of our efforts. Witnessing our students actively contributing to both local and global communities is incredibly inspiring. It fills us with joy to see a generation deeply committed to community engagement and dedicated to discovering sustainable alternatives, all in the pursuit of making the world a better place for everyone.”
The young leader and environmental enthusiast, Nirvaan Phophalia, President and Co-Founder of the JBCN International School Parel campus environment club ‘Ecospire,’ spearheaded this initiative with infectious enthusiasm and a deep commitment to the environment. The plantation drive was also supported by Ecospire’s co-founders Aarav Chaudhary and Aarav Jain along with other club members and teachers.
According to Nirvaan Phophalia, “The tree plantation drive not only served as an educational and hands-on experience for the learners but also as a powerful statement about the collective responsibility we all bear in preserving our environment. The event was an example of how small acts can lead to significant change when driven by passion, commitment, and community support.”
The success of the event can also be attributed to the unwavering leadership and support of Mr Jaidev Amirapu and others from Forests by Heartfulness, one of the leading NGOs in the field of agroforestry. Forests by Heartfulness has been leading the efforts in conducting mass plantation drives and planting millions of trees across India. The Heartfulness Institute is a global non-profit organization associated with the United Nations DPI.
