India, Russia, China Key To Countering US Militarism: Iranian Envoy After Pakistan Talks Collapse

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Iranian Consul General in Mumbai, Saeid Reza Mosayeb Motlagh, emphasised the vital role of significant global players, particularly India, in advocating for regional stability amidst growing tensions. He commended New Delhi’s unwavering commitment to diplomatic processes, asserting that India, along with China and Russia, has prioritised the restoration of global peace over military interventions.

In his remarks, Motlagh noted that these nations have maintained a neutral stance despite potential threats to their own interests. He stated that they have refrained from supporting American actions, which they find unjustified, and have not positioned themselves to provide military aid to Iran. Instead, their focus has been on fostering peace and stabilising economic conditions in the region.

Lack of Reciprocity from Washington

The Consul General pointed out that while the actions of these powers reflect responsible engagement in global affairs, the journey to de-escalation is hindered by a lack of reciprocity from the United States. He expressed disappointment that, thus far, these nations have been unsuccessful in persuading the US to halt what he termed “warmongering” and to exert pressure on Israel, which he described as a source of unethical behaviour in international relations.

Motlagh warned that the normalisation of targeted violence by certain actors poses a dire threat to global order. He observed that such violence is ironically being proposed as a solution by the US and Israel, suggesting that without addressing these underlying issues, the world will likely continue to face ongoing conflict.

He expressed concerns regarding the recent military actions in Lebanon and pointed to perceived inconsistencies in how nuclear capabilities are treated among nations, highlighting breaches of international norms by the US and Israel.

Impasse in Islamabad Peace Talks

In discussing recent diplomatic efforts in Pakistan, the Consul General lamented the lack of progress in the peace talks, attributing the deadlock to the failure of parties to adhere to previously agreed conditions. He noted that the ceasefire negotiations have reached an impasse, leaving the region unsettled following the collapse of the dialogue in Islamabad.

The departure of US Vice President JD Vance from Islamabad highlighted the diplomatic stalemate that ensued, following unproductive discussions with Iran. This lack of progress reflects broader challenges in achieving meaningful negotiations and peace agreements in the region.

In response to the stagnant situation, Iran’s Head of Centre for Public Diplomacy and Spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei asserted that the nation has made considerable efforts during the negotiations. However, he maintained that success hinges on the recognition of Iran’s “legitimate rights and interests.” He stressed that Iran’s substantial losses have only intensified its resolve to pursue national interests through all available avenues.

As the situation evolves, reports from the Tasnim News Agency indicated that Iran had proposed “reasonable proposals” during the Islamabad discussions, stating that the onus now lies with the United States to facilitate a resolution.
