The annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra is set to commence on July 3 and will conclude on August 28, in conjunction with the festival of Raksha Bandhan. This year, the pilgrimage will span a total of 57 days, as announced by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who also serves as the Chairman of the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board (SASB). The announcement was made during a press conference held in Jammu on April 12, 2023.

LG Sinha conveyed that the inaugural ritual, known as Pratham Puja, will take place on Jyeshtha Purnima, which falls on June 29, 2023. He highlighted that registration for participants will commence on April 15, with options for both online and offline registration.

Registration Facilities Available at Multiple Locations

The Lieutenant Governor elaborated on the registration facilities available for devotees, mentioning that advance registration can be completed at 554 bank branches across the country. Institutions such as Jammu and Kashmir Bank, Punjab National Bank, State Bank of India, and Yes Bank are among those facilitating the registration process.

For online registration, devotees can visit the official website of the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board, providing convenience for those wishing to participate in the pilgrimage. It is important for devotees to note the eligibility criteria, as they must be aged between 13 and 70 years to take part in the Yatra.

LG Sinha observed that participation in the Yatra has seen a consistent increase over the years, which he attributes to growing faith among devotees as well as improvements in the infrastructure supporting the pilgrimage.

Enhanced Safety and Infrastructure Measures Implemented

A number of safety measures have been introduced to ensure a secure pilgrimage experience. RFID cards will now be mandatory for all pilgrims, and the group accidental insurance cover has been raised from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. These initiatives aim to provide better protection for participants during their journey.

Significant upgrades to infrastructure have also been reported. This includes the widening of paths along the Baltal and Nunwan routes, improvements to various bridges, and the establishment of robust disaster management protocols involving the deployment of mountain rescue teams and security forces.

According to LG Sinha, the upgrades have contributed to a more pleasant Yatra experience, with real-time monitoring, improved sanitation facilities, and better connectivity. He noted that devotees have expressed increased satisfaction with the arrangements compared to previous years.

Preparations Underway for Thousands of Expected Pilgrims

Extensive preparations are currently in progress to accommodate the thousands of devotees anticipated to participate in this year’s pilgrimage. LG Sinha reassured attendees that the government is committed to ensuring a smooth and safe Yatra, with numerous measures implemented to enhance overall experience for participants.
