An Indian technology professional based overseas recounted an exchange with his American supervisor that showcased a supportive workplace environment. The individual took to Reddit’s Indian Workplace to explain how transitioning his work hours became necessary after the arrival of his newborn. His wife plans to resume her job, prompting them to hire a nanny for their seven-month-old child. The nanny’s departure is set for 4:30 pm, requiring the techie to assume childcare responsibilities until his wife’s return at approximately 7:30 pm.

Living abroad without nearby family assistance has heightened the couple’s responsibilities. The techie noted, “We live abroad, so we don’t have any help, like parents-in-law or any other relatives living nearby. It’s just the two of us taking care of the baby.” Faced with this challenge, he decided to candidly communicate his changed circumstances to his manager.

In his message to the manager, the employee clarified, “I wanted to let you know about some changes to my work calendar starting today… I will be out of the office each day from 4:30-7:30 pm to care for the baby.” He assured her that his work commitments would not be compromised, stating, “I plan to make up this time either at night or by starting my day earlier… I hope this adjustment works for you and the team.”
