A Japanese tourist was allegedly molested by a group of five youths near Jaipur’s Jaigarh Fort, prompting police to register an FIR while efforts to trace the accused continue.
The incident, which took place on Sunday in the Amber area, has raised fresh concerns over tourist safety in Rajasthan, a state that attracts large numbers of international visitors each year.
Assault On Secluded Stretch Near Fort
According to police, the woman had gone to visit Jaigarh Fort and was exploring the surrounding hills when she was intercepted on a relatively isolated stretch. The accused allegedly stopped her, pushed her, held her hands and attempted to kiss her.
DCP (North) Karan Sharma said the details emerged from the victim’s complaint, following which a formal FIR was registered.
As the situation escalated, the tourist raised an alarm and managed to run towards a nearby security guard stationed in the area. Sensing intervention, the accused fled the spot before they could be apprehended.
Police Launch Search, No Arrests Yet
The security guard alerted local police immediately after the incident. Authorities have since begun efforts to identify and locate the accused, but no arrests had been made at the time of reporting.
Police officials said teams are scanning the area and examining possible leads to track down the suspects. The case has been registered under relevant sections pertaining to sexual harassment.
Officials have not disclosed further details about the victim but confirmed that she is safe and cooperating with the investigation.
Renewed Focus On Tourist Safety
The incident has once again spotlighted safety concerns for foreign tourists in India, particularly in areas that are less crowded or lack sufficient surveillance.
Jaigarh Fort and the Amber region are among Jaipur’s most visited attractions, known for their historical significance and scenic views. However, stretches around the hills can become isolated, especially during off-peak hours.
Authorities are likely to face increased pressure to enhance patrolling and security measures in tourist-heavy zones, while ensuring swift action against those responsible.
The case remains under investigation, with police stating that arrests are expected soon as efforts to identify the accused intensify.
