Uttarakhand CM Advocates for Development Projects During Meeting With Union Minister

The CSR Journal Magazine

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami recently engaged in discussions with the Union Minister for Power, Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, in New Delhi. The primary focus of the meeting was to seek financial assistance and approval for various infrastructural projects set to enhance the Ganga Corridor area in Haridwar, coinciding with the upcoming Kumbh Mela in January 2027.

During the discussions, Dhami requested approval for an allocation of Rs 325 crore for the first phase of the project, with an estimated cost of Rs 425 crore for the second phase. The funds will be used to establish underground cabling and implement automated systems in the region, which is expected to draw an influx of visitors during the religious gathering.

In addition to the cabling project, the Chief Minister sought support for the beautification of ghats in Haridwar. He emphasised the importance of improving residential facilities, bolstering urban infrastructure, and enhancing the overall aesthetic of the area, which serves as a significant pilgrimage site.

Transport Development Proposals

Furthermore, Dhami proposed the extension of the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) from Modi Puram in Meerut to Haridwar. This initiative is intended to facilitate easier access to the pilgrimage site and improve the transportation network in the region. The Chief Minister also highlighted the necessity for a new metro corridor linking Dehradun, Haridwar, and Rishikesh.

The transport proposals aim at providing a robust infrastructure that can accommodate the anticipated surge of pilgrims during major events, thereby improving connectivity and convenience for travellers. Dhami’s requests reflect a broader vision of adopting modern transportation solutions in Uttarakhand, which is essential for boosting local tourism and economic growth.

In response to these requests, Union Minister Khattar reportedly assured the Chief Minister of the central government’s support on these initiatives. The dialogue between the two leaders underscored the commitment to upgrading the physical infrastructure in Haridwar as part of wider development plans in Uttarakhand.

Gratitude and Recent Government Initiatives

During the meeting, Dhami expressed his appreciation for Khattar’s positive response regarding the proposed projects. As a gesture of gratitude, he presented Khattar with “Badri cow ghee,” a traditional product from Uttarakhand that holds cultural significance in the state. Such gestures are aimed at fostering collaboration between the state and central governments.

Additionally, recent remarks from Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted the government’s commitment to public welfare projects in Uttarakhand. Last month, Shah inaugurated various schemes worth over Rs 1,132 crore in Haridwar, coinciding with the four-year anniversary of the Uttarakhand Government.

Shah noted the significance of the Kumbh Mela, asserting that it is a matter of national pride. The central government has reportedly allocated considerable funds to ensure the successful hosting of this major event in Haridwar. The collaborative efforts between state and central authorities indicate a strategic approach towards elevating infrastructure and services in the region ahead of the Kumbh Mela.
