PM Modi Affirms BJP’s Confidence in Winning Kerala Elections

The CSR Journal Magazine

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed strong confidence that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will secure victory in the upcoming Kerala elections. During a rally held in Thiruvalla, he accused both the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF) of spreading misinformation regarding the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill and the Uniform Civil Code. He mentioned that the proposed law to reserve 33 per cent of seats for women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies was enacted under the NDA government.

Modi highlighted the scheduled sessions of Parliament on April 16, 17, and 18, aimed at amending the Nari Shakti Vandan Act, and expressed hope that Congress members would engage constructively. He pointed to various films, such as “Kerala Files,” “Kashmir Files,” and “Dhurandhar,” which opposition parties have labelled as fabricated, and alleged that they were engaged in a pattern of dishonesty regarding key legislative matters.

He further stated that the countdown for the exit of the LDF government in Kerala has commenced, indicating a significant political shift in favour of the NDA. As voting is scheduled for April 9, he asserted that May 4 would mark the end of longstanding misgovernance. Modi claimed that the BJP-NDA is set to establish its first government in Kerala.

Concerns Regarding Radical Elements

During his address, PM Modi also raised issues regarding the prevalence of radical elements in the state, suggesting that both the LDF and UDF have nurtured such organisations for electoral gain. He mentioned a recent incident in Munambam, where Hindu and Christian families reportedly faced threats, accusing the state government of siding with radical factions rather than protecting the victims.

He claimed that previous central governments under LDF and UDF had significantly underfunded Kerala, contrasting this with the Modi administration’s efforts, which have reportedly resulted in a five-fold increase in financial allocations to the state. Modi asserted that this increased support under his government aims to enhance the welfare of all Keralites.

The Prime Minister addressed concerns about remarks made by Congress regarding the situation in West Asia, labelling them as irresponsible and potentially harmful to millions of Indians working in Gulf nations. Modi alleged that Congress intentions were to sow discord between India and these nations, thereby endangering Indian lives abroad.

Government’s Commitment to Women’s Representation

Modi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to women’s safety and representation, stating that the NDA aims to ensure that women occupy a prominent role in Parliament through a proposed 33 per cent reservation starting in 2029. He reiterated that a bill providing for this reservation has already progressed and aims for consensus across party lines.

During his rally, the Prime Minister urged the opposition to support amendments concerning the women’s reservation and delineation of parliamentary seats, emphasising that no reductions in seats will happen for states performing well in population management. He stated the need for the upcoming legislative session to address these significant issues.

In response to criticisms about the parliamentary session, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused PM Modi of attempting to aid the LDF while neglecting serious local issues, including the theft of gold from the Sabarimala temple. Gandhi promised increased safety and support for women in Kerala, proposing initiatives such as free bus travel for women if UDF were to gain power.

In a retort, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan questioned the integrity of Rahul Gandhi’s claims, reminding him of the legal actions taken during Congress rule that affected various communities. As the election approaches, Kerala is set to cast its votes on April 9, with results expected by May 4, marking a crucial period in the state’s political landscape.
