Telangana Father Allegedly Poisons and Drowns Twin Daughters Over Son Preference

The CSR Journal Magazine

A man in Telangana’s Karimnagar district is accused of poisoning and drowning his four-year-old twin daughters. The tragic incident occurred on February 1, 2025, and has shocked the local community. The accused, Kachhu Srisailam, allegedly committed the act following ongoing frustration and disputes with his wife over the birth of daughters instead of a son.

Srisailam’s relationship with his wife reportedly deteriorated in the six years since their marriage, particularly after the birth of their children, Geethanshi and Geethanvika. Local authorities have indicated that family members attempted to intervene and mediate disputes, but these efforts did not bring the desired resolution.

Details of the Incident

On the day of the incident, Srisailam and his wife engaged in yet another argument. Allegedly overwhelmed by his desire for a son, Srisailam took a horrific step that would lead to global outrage. Following the argument, he reportedly forced his daughters to ingest pesticide and then disposed of them into a nearby well, where they ultimately drowned.

Upon discovering the situation, local residents apprehended Srisailam, taking justice into their own hands before alerting the police. The accused was reportedly assaulted by bystanders who discovered the distressing situation and saw the need to intervene.

Authorities recovered the body of one child from the well, while search operations were launched to find the other. The situation continues to develop as the police engage in investigation and gather evidence related to this heartbreaking case.

Investigation and Community Response

The local police, led by Karimnagar Rural Circle Inspector A Niranjan Reddy, have initiated an investigation into the incident. As more details emerge, law enforcement is conducting interviews and reviewing reports from family and neighbours to gather a clearer picture of the events leading up to the tragedy.

The community’s reaction has been one of horror and disbelief, with many expressing their outrage over the actions of Srisailam. The case has raised concerns regarding mental health, domestic disputes, and the societal pressures surrounding the preference for male children, which can lead to tragic consequences. Various local organisations are calling for greater awareness and preventive measures to combat such issues.

As the investigation unfolds, community leaders emphasise the importance of addressing the underlying issues that contribute to domestic violence and gender discrimination. It is hoped that this tragic event will act as a catalyst for conversations around gender preferences and the need to support families facing pressure in their personal lives.
