Assam Minister Piyush Hazarika Promises 2.5 Lakh Government Jobs to Youth if Voted Back to Power

Assam Minister Piyush Hazarika has stated that if Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is re-elected in the forthcoming assembly elections, his government will create approximately 2.5 lakh jobs for the youth of the state. This commitment was made during a press conference held in Guwahati.

Hazarika pointed to previous achievements of the government, particularly emphasising the financial aid disbursed to youth through the Mukhyamantri Atmanirbhar Scheme. Under this initiative, 1 lakh youths have received Rs 2 lakh each, and the government aims to broaden its outreach to include 10 lakh youths, increasing the financial support from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.

Focus on Industrialisation and Employment Opportunities

The Minister also addressed the government’s industrialisation initiatives, mentioning significant investments made during the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit, where Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) worth Rs 5.5 lakh crore were signed. Hazarika highlighted that these agreements are projected to generate numerous employment opportunities, citing the creation of 29,000 jobs through the Jagiroad Semiconductor Project.

Additionally, he noted that the development of 15 five-star hotels in Guwahati is part of the state’s ongoing infrastructure improvements. These projects are aimed at boosting the local economy and increasing job opportunities for residents.

Hazarika affirmed the commitment of the Assam government to enhance the industrial landscape of the state, which he claims is vital for local employment and economic growth.

Investment in Flood Management and Infrastructure Development

On the topic of flood management, Hazarika provided insights into government investments aimed at preventing flooding, which has historically plagued Assam. He reported the construction of around 1,000 km of new embankments over the last five years, with an allocation of Rs 18,000 crore for these projects.

The Minister indicated plans to construct an additional 120-150 km of embankments over the next year to year and a half, stating that these efforts have resulted in a 70 per cent reduction in flooding occurrences within the state.

Advancements in Education and Medical Infrastructure

Hazarika also highlighted the advancements made in the education and medical sectors. He announced that the number of medical seats in Assam has increased from 726 to 1,850, with plans to reach 2,800 in the future. Furthermore, he noted that financial support has been provided to 4 lakh girl students through the Nijut Moina Scheme.

The Minister mentioned that over 57 lakh students have benefited from free textbooks, while approximately 10 lakh girl students have received free bicycles to facilitate their commute to school. He also referenced the Nijut Babu Scheme, introduced to further assist students in need.

In summary, the Hazarika elaborated on the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance educational opportunities and support for students throughout the state, contributing to overall development and empowerment of the youth.
