BJP Promises “Fighter’s Allowance” to Party Workers who Have Been Jailed Following Election Victory in West Bengal

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a rally in Kharagpur, West Bengal, the Leader of Opposition in the state assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, declared that a significant political shift is imminent, forecasting a decisive victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the upcoming elections. Adhikari rallied his supporters, asserting that the electorate would thoroughly reject the current government.

During his interaction with supporters, Adhikari mentioned that a new BJP government would take swift action by withdrawing all alleged fabricated cases against party members in its initial cabinet meeting. Additionally, he revealed plans to grant a Rs 5,000 allowance to those BJP workers who have faced imprisonment for their political activities, which he referred to as a ‘fighter’s allowance.’

Intense Campaigning Underway for West Bengal Elections

Political campaigning has intensified across West Bengal in anticipation of the state Assembly elections scheduled for late April. With multiple high-profile figures involved, recent days have witnessed notable visits from prominent politicians. Among these was Delhi’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who performed a roadshow to showcase her support for Adhikari and the BJP’s objectives.

On April 2, Union Home Minister Amit Shah made a notable appearance to support Adhikari during his nomination filing. Shah captured the audience’s attention with his emphatic call for voters in West Bengal to act fearlessly in exercising their democratic right, ensuring the TMC is removed from power.

Shah urged the residents of Bhabanipur, the constituency where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is contesting, to favour Adhikari’s candidacy, emphasizing the need to rid the state of corruption associated with the ruling party. He expressly appealed to the citizenry to help establish a ‘Sonar Bangla’ or prosperous Bengal.

Electoral Contest Between Major Political Figures

The upcoming elections are expected to feature a direct contest between Suvendu Adhikari and Mamata Banerjee, with Adhikari vying for seats in both Bhabanipur and Nandigram. Banerjee previously faced defeat in Nandigram during the 2021 Assembly elections against Adhikari; however, she later achieved victory in the Bhabanipur by-election against her opponent, Priyanka Tibrewal.

With polling set to take place in two phases on April 23 and April 29, voters in West Bengal will be making their voices heard in the election for all 294 Assembly seats. The results are scheduled to be announced on May 4. The last assembly elections, conducted over eight phases in 2021, resulted in a sweeping victory for the TMC, which secured 213 seats, while the BJP increased its tally to 77 seats and Congress and the Left Front failed to win any seats.

The BJP’s campaign strategy appears focused on rallying support around issues such as corruption and governance, promising a transformative vision for the state. Adhikari has publicly expressed confidence in the BJP’s prospects and has stated that the TMC will face a substantial defeat.
