Maharashtra Man Murders Lover, Tries to Pass It Off as Suicide; Held 20 Days Later

The CSR Journal Magazine

A disturbing murder case has emerged from Chandrapur, Maharashtra, involving a 22-year-old man who allegedly killed his girlfriend and attempted to disguise the act as a suicide. The victim, Priyanka Wandhar, was reportedly seven years older than the accused, Ankesh Yogesh Bahirwar. The incident is said to have occurred on the night of March 14, 2025, but the circumstances surrounding her death remained unclear until a postmortem report was released, confirming homicide twenty days later.

Background of the Victim and the Relationship

Priyanka was living separately from her husband when she began her relationship with Ankesh. The couple reportedly moved in together, residing on the upper floor of Priyanka’s house. In the weeks leading up to the tragic event, minor disagreements between them escalated into more serious conflicts. Investigations indicated that these disputes often revolved around Ankesh’s controlling behaviour and his restrictions on communication with his family.

On the night of the fatal altercation, tensions reportedly reached a peak. Allegations suggest that in a moment of anger, Ankesh used a mobile charger wire to strangle Priyanka. After the incident, he allegedly contacted her father, claiming that Priyanka had become unconscious and might have attempted suicide. Family members hurried to the scene and took her to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Initial assessments of Priyanka’s death suggested suicide; however, the postmortem results that emerged on April 3, 2025, contradicted this notion and confirmed the cause of death as strangulation. This revelation prompted the police to take immediate action, initiating a formal investigation into the case.

Investigation and Arrest

Following the postmortem findings, the police began collecting evidence and interviewing relevant individuals. During the course of the investigation, Ankesh was subjected to questioning. Reports indicate that he eventually confessed to the crime, providing critical details about the events leading up to Priyanka’s death. Authorities recovered the mobile charger and an extension board that were allegedly employed during the murder from the crime scene.

In light of the confession and the recovered evidence, police filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Ankesh. His arrest marks a significant development in a case that has drawn considerable public attention due to its nature and the tragic loss of life. As the investigation continues, law enforcement agencies are thoroughly examining all aspects related to the case.

The aftermath of this incident has raised awareness regarding domestic disputes and violence, particularly in romantic relationships. Various organisations and local advocates are now calling for initiatives to address mental health and relationship issues, highlighting the importance of communication and conflict resolution within partnerships.
