The CSR Journal Magazine

Ranbir Kapoor has officially announced that he will take on a dual role in Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming film, Ramayana. In this ambitious project, Kapoor will portray both Lord Rama and the earlier avatar of Lord Vishnu, Parshurama. This information was speculated in a recent teaser, but it had not been publicly affirmed until the actor provided clarification.

Insights from the Actor on His Preparation

During a press event for the teaser launch in Los Angeles, Kapoor elaborated on his approach to embodying both characters. He indicated that he utilised varied body language and voice modulation to portray the unique characteristics and emotions attributed to Rama and Parshurama. Kapoor emphasised that grasping the spirituality inherent in each avatar was crucial for delivering an authentic performance.

In his words, “Lord Vishnu has different avatars. Lord Rama was one, and Parshurama preceded him. Portraying both roles has been an extraordinary opportunity. I dedicated a year to prepare for Ramayana, focusing on understanding their beliefs, motivations, and the essence of who they are.”

The actor also touched on the film’s action sequences, which he described as being comparable to iconic films like Lord of the Rings. He mentioned that the production had captured “six hours of epic visuals,” highlighting the scale of the project.

Overview of the Film’s Plot

The teaser reveals an encounter between Rama and Parshurama, a significant event within the narrative of the Ramayana. Following his marriage to Sita, Rama is met by Parshurama on his journey back to Ayodhya. Legend has it that Parshurama initially challenges Rama in combat, only to halt when he acknowledges Rama’s status as an avatar of Vishnu.

In addition to Ranbir Kapoor, the cast features Ravie Dubey as Lakshman and Arun Govil portraying King Dashratha. The teaser highlights these key relationships within the story, setting the stage for the unfolding epic.

Additionally, Sai Pallavi has been cast as Goddess Sita, while Yash, renowned for his role in KGF, will assume the character of Ravana. Sunny Deol and Ravie Dubey will portray Hanuman and Lakshman, respectively, with Kajal Aggarwal and Rakul Preet Singh appearing as Mandodari and Surpanakha. Other notable actors include Arun Govil, Kunal Kapoor, Adinath Kothare, Sheeba Chaddha, and Indira Krishnan.

Release Schedule for Ramayana

Ramayana Part I is slated for theatrical release during Diwali this year, a highly anticipated premiere for audiences. The continuation of this epic tale, which will form Part II, is set to launch on Diwali in 2027, ensuring the narrative’s progression for viewers eager to experience this elaborate reinterpretation.

Fans and followers of Indian cinema eagerly await the release, exploring the rich traditions and stories that will be highlighted throughout the film. This undertaking not only aims to entertain but also to educate audiences about the mythological heritage linked to these characters.

The film stands as a testament to the growing trend in Indian cinema of adapting ancient narratives with modern storytelling techniques and visual effects, providing a fresh perspective on well-established tales.
