PM Modi Engages with Russia’s Denis Manturov to Enhance Bilateral Cooperation

On April 3, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Denis Manturov, Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister, to discuss ways to enhance the bilateral relationship between India and Russia. This meeting is seen as part of ongoing efforts to reinforce their established partnership across various sectors of strategic importance, including trade and connectivity.

During the engagement, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of mutually beneficial cooperation in areas such as trade, fertilizers, and people-to-people connections. He remarked on the sustained efforts from both nations to implement the outcomes of the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit, which took place during President Putin’s visit to India in December 2025.

Diplomatic Efforts to Enhance Ties

The Russian Embassy in India highlighted the significance of the discussions, noting that both parties paid particular attention to strengthening the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between Russia and India. They focused on specific actions needed to fulfill agreements made during the recent bilateral summit, with particular emphasis on trade, investment, energy, and industrial collaboration.

In addition to Prime Minister Modi’s meeting, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also held discussions with Denis Manturov. The Ministry of Finance shared that the two leaders exchanged views on bolstering trade and investment ties and addressed various issues of mutual interest to further economic cooperation between the two nations.

Encouraging Multidimensional Engagement

This sequence of meetings illustrates a commitment to deepen the long-standing partnership encompassing various dimensions, including science and technology, nuclear energy, defense, and space cooperation. Both leaders expressed optimism about the ongoing engagement to address and expand collaboration across these sectors.
